Everyone Is Freaking Out Over This Breaking Bad Actor's Surprising Westworld Cameo

Giancarlo Esposito, who is best known as the beloved Gus Fring on Breaking Bad and the prequel Better Call Saul, popped up in Westworld’s second episode to fill the role of the Revolutionary leader, El Lazo.

It was one of Westworld’s many brilliantly orchestrated reunions. Lawrence (Clifton Collins Jr.) essentially meets Esposito’s character he used to play in Pariah, the town of indulgent perversions.

Confused? The explanation is pretty simple. Westworld routinely scrambles the timelines and repurposes the bots to play different characters within the park’s sprawling narratives.

Let’s rewind back to season one of Westworld quickly. Clifton Collins Jr. played the big bad outlaw El Lazo, who notably told William and Dolores, “now that we’re all friends, you can call me Lawrence.” Lawrence and El Lazo appear to be one and the same. But now in season 2 episode 2, Esposito plays El Lazo, and Lawrence meets one of his former builds.

Season 2 El Lazo refuses to assist the Man in Black on his new quest for all the Westworld answers, because The Man in Black (Ed Harris) is on his own. This could not be more clear when the soldiers encircling The Man in Black shoot themselves and then El Lazo also off’s himself with a maniacal grin.

Why would they do that? The likely answer is that it’s textbook Dr. Ford, puppeteering his creations to make things genuinely hard for The Man in Black.

But back to the new El Lazo, who essentially just blew himself out of season 2. Whether or not we’ll see more of Esposito is anyone’s guess, but he’s hoping he gets another shot, he said in an interview with the TheHollywoodReporter.

Esposito’s cameo was a crossover dream come true for fans on the internet, who were very excited to see him back on the small screeen.

Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson Celebrate 30th Anniversary with Pregnant Kate Hudson, Oprah and More!

The longtime couple toasted to their anniversary with a star-studded party in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Mom-to-be Kate Hudson was seen arriving at the bash with boyfriend Danny Fujikawa, along with her parents Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.

Other A-list guests included Conan O’Brien, Martin Short, Isla Fisher and Jimmy Kimmel and his wife Molly McNearney.

Hudson kept her growing bump covered in a black, off the shoulder dress for the occasion. Hawn was seen wearing a pair of black, polka-dot pants while Russell looked casual in a flannel shirt.

The group of party guests was seen chatting outside the soiree before heading inside.

And of course, Hanks’ future running-mate Oprah Winfrey was also seen arriving at the party.

Hanks and Wilson, both 61, met shortly after the actor divorced his first wife Samantha Lewes in 1987. Hanks and Wilson were married the next year.

“I wish there was a secret, you know. We just like each other. You start there,” Hanks previously said about what it takes for a successful marriage.

“I still can’t believe my wife goes out with me,” he added. “If we were in high school and I was just funny, I’d never have the courage to talk to her.”

Hanks also previously said his marriage to Wilson has been easy.

“They say it must be hard work. No, it’s not,” Hanks said. “Every now and again you know, you gotta get over some stuff but life is one damn thing after another and it’s actually more pleasant to be able to go home with someone you like to spend time with in order to get with it.”

Miley Cyrus Is 'Not Sorry' for Controversial 2008 Vanity Fair Photos Years After Apologizing

A decade after the singer posed for the pictures by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, Cyrus said she had no remorse about the shoot, which included an image in which she appeared to be topless, covered only by a sheet.

“IM NOT SORRY,” she captioned a tweet, Sunday, featuring the front page of the April 28, 2008, edition of the New York Post with the headline “Miley’s Shame” and an article about her apology. “F— YOU #10yearsago,” she wrote.

Cyrus — then a Disney Channel star — issued a statement exclusively to PEOPLE in 2008 apologizing for the pictures, saying she was “embarrassed.”

“My goal in my music and my acting is always to make people happy. For Vanity Fair, I was so honored and thrilled to work with Annie [Leibovitz],” she said. “I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed.”

The singer continued, “The pictures of me on the internet were silly, inappropriate shots. I appreciate all the support of my fans, and hope they understand that along the way I am going to make mistakes and I am not perfect. I never intended for any of this to happen and I am truly sorry if I have disappointed anyone. Most of all, I have let myself down. I will learn from my mistakes and trust my support team. My family and my faith will guide me through my life’s journey.”

At the time, a source told PEOPLE that while the pictures suggested that she was nude, Cyrus did have clothes on. “She is covered by a sheet, and beneath the sheet she is clothed,” the insider said. “Originally, she was in a flesh-colored tank top but was asked to remove it.”

Nowadays, Cyrus doesn’t shy away from risqué photo shoots, from posing as a sultry Easter bunny to wearing nothing but a sheer bodysuit embellished with very purposefully placed Swarovski crystals. But on Sunday, the 25-year-old pop star took a trip down memory lane with some snapshots from her younger years.

The pictures included a shot of the youngster blowing a kiss to the camera while wearing a pink top.

Avengers: Infinity War Tops Star Wars For Biggest Box Office Opening Ever

(NEW YORK) — A few dozen superheroes lifted “Avengers: Infinity War” to a record $250 million in ticket sales over the weekend, narrowly surpassing “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” for the highest opening weekend of all-time.

According to Disney’s estimates Sunday, the Marvel Studios superhero smorgasbord bested the previous record set by “The Force Awakens.” Accounting for inflation, the “Star Wars” reboot would still reign with about $260 million in 2018 dollars.

“Infinity War” also set a new global opening record with $630 million, even though it’s yet to open in China, the world’s second-largest movie market. It opens there May 11. “The Fate of the Furious” previously held the worldwide mark with $541.9 million.

Thank You for the (New) Music! ABBA Releasing First Songs in 35 Years

Over one year after singer Benny Andersson, 71, revealed that the group would be reuniting — as virtual avatars — for a live “entertainment experience,” the group has announced that they’ll also be releasing new music.

“The decision to go ahead with the exciting ABBA avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence. We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio. So we did,” wrote Andersson, Agnetha Fältskog, 68, Björn Ulvaeus, 73, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, 72, in a group statement shared on social media.

“And it was like time had stood still and that we only had been away on a short holiday,” they continued, describing their time together in the recording studio as “an extremely joyful experience!”

While the group has yet to announce a release date for their new tunes, ABBA said fans might get to hear one of the songs — and see a preview of the groups’ new “digital selves” — this December.

“[The reunion] resulted in two new songs and one of them ‘I Still Have Faith In You’ will be performed by our digital selves in a TV special produced by NBC and the BBC aimed for broadcasting in December,” the wrote in the statement.

Continuing, they added, “We may have come of age, but the song is new. And it feels good.”

In 2016, Andersson described the group’s virtual reunion as “a time machine that captures the essence of who we were. And are.”

The four members of ABBA — who have sold 380 million records throughout their career — split in 1982, after the group’s two married couples got divorced.

Although singers Fältskog and Lyngstad largely withdrew from the music world, Ulvaeus and Andersson went on to create the Broadway hit Mamma Mia!, which later became a movie musical starring Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan.

The film’s sequel, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! will hit theaters this July.

ABBA previously reunited in 2016, when all four members sang onstage for the first time in 30 years during a special 50th anniversary party in Stockholm.

Months earlier, the group reunited at the launch of Ulvaeus’ new restaurant, “Mamma Mia! The Party,” in Stockholm.

It’s Really Happening! Alexis Bledel Says Third Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Is in the Works

After years of rumors, it seems the possibility of a third Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie is inching closer to becoming a reality.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, Alexis Bledel teased a follow-up to the 2005 and 2008 films.

Asked by Fallon about keeping up with her castmates — America Ferrera, Blake Lively and Amber Tamblyn — Bledel said, “We don’t get to see each other a lot because everybody’s work or family and everything, but when everybody is in town we do, and we just pitched a third movie and I hope it comes together. It would be so great.”

Bledel, 36, said that reuniting onscreen with the ladies “would be the best thing.”

The movies — based on the novel series of the same name — follow the adventures of four best friends who share a pair of magical jeans that fits each of them.

Lively also addressed the potential of a third film on Thursday, telling Entertainment Tonight, “I think it could really happen.”

Four years after we last saw the 27-year-old singer’s lookalike puppet party with models and get into trouble in the music video for “Sing,” Sheeran decided to re-employ his pal. This time, the red-haired marionette is starring in the music video for Sheeran’s heartbreaking single “Happier,” off of his latest album ÷ (pronounced “divide”).

In the music video, Sheeran’s puppet drinks alone in a bar as he mourns his ex — who’s played by a woman made entirely out of balloons — after he catches her having a meal with her new man, and looking like she’s happier than she ever was with him.

Of course, feeling heartbroken over a girl is all in the past for Sheeran, who’s currently engaged to fiancée Cherry Seaborn.

Although the pair have known each other since they were kids, romance didn’t blossom between them until the summer of 2015, when Sheeran asked his friend Taylor Swift if he could invite Seaborn over for the pop songstress’ annual star-studded Fourth of July bash at her Rhode Island home.

“I’ve known Cherry since I was 11,” the “Perfect” singer told PEOPLE last year. “She worked on Wall Street in New York, and I had like six shows [around New York in 2015]. It was around then, and we reconnected. I went on tour again, and then I went to Taylor’s Fourth of July party. I was texting [Seaborn], and she was like, ‘I’m in Rhode Island at a 4th of July party,’ and I was like, ‘So am I.’ I kinda said to Taylor, ‘Can I invite one of my old schoolmates?’ The rest is history.”

The Avengers Assemble for a Brady Bunch-Style Singalong on Jimmy Fallon: 'The Marvel Bunch'

Jimmy Fallon pulled off the most ambitious crossover event yet on The Tonight Show when he assembled the cast of Avengers: Infinity War to sing a familiar tune. The host managed to get every major player in the upcoming epic to appear in their own version of the Brady Bunch theme song, starting with the first Avenger himself.

“Here’s the story of a playboy genius who was gearing up to form some sort of crew,” Robert Downey Jr. sang in the skit, which appeared during Wednesday night’s episode.

Then all of the Avengers started introducing themselves, including Scarlett Johansson (“a former Russian spy”), Chris Hemsworth (“a God of Thunder”) and Chris Evans (“one fought in World War II”).

Chris Pratt, “a handsome Star Lord, like the greatest to ever walk the Earth, by far,” chimed in, with Anthony Mackie (“a Falcon”) and Benedict Cumberbatch (“a magic doctor”) joining him before Chadwick Boseman simply crooned, “Wakanda forever.”

Finally, with all of the Avengers assembled, the cast brought it home with the theme song.

“So then one day all the heroes were assembled, to fight a villain who packed much more than a punch,” the cast sang along. “And this group was labeled the Avengers, that’s the way we all became the Marvel Bunch.”

Avengers: Infinity War opens in theaters Friday.

Channing Tatum Celebrates 38th Birthday Newly Single — How He's Moving on After Jenna Dewan

The Magic Mike star turns 38 on Thursday, capping off what’s been a intense year for that actor, who recently split from Jenna Dewan after nearly nine years of marriage.

The jointly announced breakup has “been hard for Channing,” a source close to the couple previously told PEOPLE. “He always had Jenna and their family to go home to, so having their separation be ‘official’ now has been a big adjustment for him.”

The actor stepped out earlier this week to promote his new animated film Smallfoot at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he walked the red carpet and posed with costars Common and Zendaya.

Tatum made his first public appearance since the split on Sunday at the Honda Indy Grand Prix where he served as the grand marshal and hung out with Bachelor star Arie Luyendyk Jr.

Tatum and Dewan, 37, announced the split in a statement exclusive to PEOPLE, saying, “We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple.” They added, “There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision — just two best-friends realizing it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible.”

A source close to the couple previously PEOPLE the pair tried to make things work after “growing apart” over the past year.

“They really wanted to make their marriage work,” said the insider. “But neither of them are people who will stay in something that isn’t fully right.”

Before the split, Tatum slowed down his busy career to spend more time with Dewan and their 4-year-old daughter Everly.

“He was actually turning down jobs to spend more time with family,” said the source, adding that Tatum hasn’t been on location for a film since making Logan Lucky in October 2016.

The busy actor has seemingly scaled back in the recent years, with only four films released in 2016 and 2017 combined. This is a stark contrast to his packed schedule before: he was starring in four to five movies a year from 2011 to 2015.

The only job Tatum took on during 2017 was voice work for Smallfoot, which took place in L.A. The animated film is the sole project the actor is appearing in that will be released this year.

The 21 Jump Street star has already moved out of the Los Angeles home he and Dewan shared and the two have been spending more time with their respective supportive group of friends, another source previously told PEOPLE.

“Channing has been spending more time with his friends over the last couple months and Jenna, of course, has her close group of girlfriends that she’s been leaning on,” said the source, adding, “They’ll always be connected.”

Moving forward, both actors have plenty of projects in the works that will keep them in the spotlight. They’ll also continue working together, collaborating on the YouTube series Step Up: High Water, which counts both of them as executive producers.

Tatum has several movie projects in the works as a producer and star. In addition to voicing Superman in Lego Batman 2, he’s attached to star in and produce the X-Men spinoff Gambit, which was announced back in 2015. The movie is set to be released in summer 2019, following the three other X-Men movies coming out this year.

The actor is also attached to star in and produce a musical comedy with Joseph Gordon-Levitt written by Michael Bacall, who also penned the 21 Jump Street movies.

Queen Latifah to Perform at Essence Festival 2018 - Her Return to the Stage After Losing Her Mom

Queen Latifah, superstar rapper, actress and producer will be hitting the stage this summer at Essence Fest in New Orleans, joining other headliners Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige and Erykah Badu among others.

“Commemorating three decades in the entertainment business, the Golden Globe, Emmy, Grammy and SAG Award recipient will be performing alongside Mary J. Blige and Xscape during the Festival’s second evening on Saturday, July 7 in the Louisiana Superdome,” says a press release announcing Latifah’s performance.

Latifah, 48, who first broke onto the music scene in the late 80s with her debut album All Hail the Queen is expected to perform hits like “U.N.I.T.Y.” and “Ladies First”.

The event will mark one of the first public appearances for Queen Latifah, since she shared the news in March that her mother Rita Owens died from complications of a heart condition.

Essence Fest also finds the star back at the scene of her hit 2017 film Girls Trip, based on a group of college pals played by Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish, who head out to Essence Fest for some overdue, and hilarious bonding.

Over a year after a tweet comparing the singer to beloved children’s TV character Arthur first went viral, the 39-year-old hitmaker poked fun at how much he looks like the 8-year-old animated aardvark in a new advertisement for Google Duo. The service, dubbed the “simple video calling app,” made it possible for Legend to try on various outfits in his closet and get feedback from pregnant wife, who is pictured lounging comfortably in bed.

“I need some help — I’m trying to pick out an outfit,” says Legend, who is wearing a fall-perfect ensemble.

“It’s 90 degrees out — why are you wearing a turtleneck?” responds Teigen, 32.

The funny criticism continues as Legend tries on other looks — “Come back with something strong, please,” the supermodel tells him — until he wears an outfit straight out of Arthur’s schoolboy wardrobe.

“Arthur!” Teigen yells in between giggles about her husband’s yellow sweater, white button-down shirt and blue pants.

“Who’s Arthur?” says Legend, seemingly clueless that he’s stealing the animated character’s look.

As Teigen laughs, Legend processes his anger over the reaction, clenching his fist — a signature Arthur move that the model referred to in her response to the comparison in February 2017.

“John when you tell him he looks like Arthur,” tweeted Teigen at the time, including the popular meme of Arthur’s clenched fist.

The cute couple moment comes amid Teigen’s pregnancy with the stars’ second child, a baby boy due in June. This time around, the parents are recycling items they got for 2-year-old daughter Luna Simone.

“We’re kind of just using Luna’s old things,” the mom-to-be told Entertainment Tonight, Tuesday, at City Harvest’s 35th Anniversary Gala in N.Y.C. “It’ll be fine.”

“Hand-me-downs,” Legend added.

Serena Williams Teases New Namesake Fashion Line at Her Documentary Series Premiere

Not only did the pro tennis star attend the premiere of her HBO documentary series Being Serena in N.Y.C. on April 25th, she also chose her big night to wear a piece from her upcoming fashion line, Serena, which will drop on May 30th. For the event, she selected a light pink dress featuring ruched detailing and gold sequin-covered sleeves.

Several runway-to-red-carpet bloggers have noted that the dress is strikingly similar to a look Tom Ford showed at his spring 2018 fashion show, which Gigi Hadid modeled on the runway and goes for $8,990 on tomford.com. However, Ford’s look features structured shoulders, while Williams’s is a V-neck style.

Earlier this week, the 36-year-old and new mom to daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian, Jr. showed fashion editors her line at a showroom in N.Y.C. Like at her premiere, she served as one of her own models at the presentation, wearing a stretchy red pencil skirt with a black band on the bottom.

Patton Oswalt Opens Up After Arrest of Golden State Killer Suspect

Just hours after the arrest of the alleged Golden State Killer, actor Patton Oswalt — whose late wife, Michelle McNamara, tirelessly investigated the long-cold case and wrote a book on the murders — appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers, opening up about what he said was her “dream.”

“Her book and the article that led to the book really amped up all the interest in the case and really put a lot of focus on this,” Oswalt said. “Not to discredit all the work that the police and the lab technicians did — it was her dream.”

McNamara was a true crime writer and journalist. Oswalt, 49, recalled, “She always said, ‘I don’t care about credit. I want to know that he’s in jail.’ And now he’s caught, the bracelets are on and it feels like this thing that she wanted so badly is now done. It just feels amazing.”

The Golden State Killer — dubbed as such by McNamara — was allegedly linked by DNA and method to 12 murders, 45 sexual assaults and more than 120 burglaries from Sacramento to southern California’s Orange County between 1976 and 1986 in California.

Suspect Joseph James DeAngelo was arrested on April 24. He is currently charged with capital murder in four killings: the February 2, 1978 slayings of Brian and Katie Maggiore in the Sacramento area, and the March 1980 slayings of Lyman and Charlene Smith in Ventura County.

Police say, however, that they believe he killed many more people.

McNamara died in her sleep in 2016 at 46. At the time of her death, she had been working on the book. Oswalt promised he would finish the book for her, and earlier this year, the star — who writes the afterword — released I’ll Be Gone in the Dark with the help of other contributors.

“I was still neck deep in grief and suddenly a single father and not sleeping, but I knew that I wouldn’t be able to live and go on with life if this was left undone,” he told Meyers of finishing I’ll Be Gone in the Dark. “I basically begged [the co-authors] and the publishers to find a way and they were the ones to find a way and finish it.”

Earlier in the day, Oswalt reacted to the arrest in a video he shared on Instagram and Twitter.

“One of the more surreal days of my life,” he said. He added while sharing a series of tweets and videos on Twitter and Instagram, “She would be beyond excited about this. I think this is the definition of ‘bittersweet.'”

In addition to cutting off friends and team members, insiders say West also had multiple arguments with his mother-in-law Kris Jenner.

“He’s had huge blow-ups with Kris. She sees how erratic he’s acting and is most concerned about her daughter’s brand. She’s also trying to be a good mother-in-law, so he’s having explosive issues with her too,” a source close to the situation told PEOPLE exclusively on Tuesday. “Everyone is really, really worried.”

A rep for the Kardashians and the Jenners did not immediately return PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Meanwhile, another insider said that West’s behavior is “very hard to deal with” and “he‘s all over the place,” adding, “If you can’t be part of his creative genius, he’ll cut you loose. That’s what he says.”

A separate source close to the situation echoed similar sentiments.

“Everyone is super, super worried,” the source said. “He just looks at you with a void. It’s like he’s mute and can’t talk and he just stares at you. The way he says things with such affirmation, he genuinely believes he’s God and a genius and that he can do everything on his own.”

Another insider added, “If this was any one else, a family member, it’d just be sad. It is sad. Everyone at the end of the day just hopes he gets help. But it’s hard. He’s not listening.”

The 24-year-old singer will join host Jimmy Fallon for a full hour of “talk, sketches, and a few surprises” on the hit NBC late night program, Tuesday, May 1.

Her appearance will also include the broadcast performance debut of Grande’s new single, “No Tears Left to Cry.”

Grande and Fallon used the single to help make the announcement in a hilarious Instagram post on Wednesday.

A parody of “No Tears Left to Cry” then played, with a very auto-tuned Fallon singing the news of Grande’s Tonight Show takeover.

“No Tears Left to Cry” marks the first new music Grande has released since the Manchester bombing in May 2017, when a terrorist killed 22 people and injured more than 500 at one of the U.K. stops of her Dangerous Woman Tour.

Just weeks later, Grande returned to the U.K. for the star-studded One Love Manchester charity concert.

Since wrapping her tour in 2017, the Nickelodeon alum has maintained a relatively low profile. On New Year’s Eve, Grande confirmed that she was nearly done with an album when she posted a video of with bits of her new song, along with the caption “See You Next Year.”

She was back on the stage last month, for the March for Our Lives Rally in Washington, D.C.

Then on April 17, Grande sent her fans rocking from side-to-side when she teased that the new single would be coming that week. She dropped “No Tears Left to Cry” alongside a mind-bending Dave Meyers-directed music video.

Last weekend, Grande popped up at Coachella to sing the tune.

Renée Zellweger, Is That You? Actress Transforms Into Judy Garland on Set of Upcoming Biopic

The actress was spotted on set of the upcoming biopic Judy on Tuesday, dressed head-to-toe as screen legend Judy Garland.

Zellweger channeled the Wizard of Oz star and renowned singer in a pink and blue patterned coat with a matching wide-brim hat. The actress was also seen wearing a brown wig and a big pair of sunglasses.

In the shot, the actress stood arm-in-arm with Finn Wittrock, who portrays Garland’s fifth husband Mickey Deans.

The biopic by Pathé and Calamity Films will follow Garland’s final sold-out concerts in London in 1968, despite her exhaustion and deteriorating health. The movie, based on a script written by The Crown‘s Tom Edge, will also focus on Garland’s management problems and her various relationships, Variety previously reported.

Production of the film is currently underway in London.

The film will also star Michael Gambon as manager Bernard Delfont. Bella Ramsey will portray Garland’s daughter Lorna Luft while Gemma-Leah Devereux will play a young Liza Minnelli.

Garland died of an accidental barbiturate overdose months after the tour ended in June 1969 in London. She was 47.

Deans and Garland were only married for three months when she died.

Judy is set to be released later this year.

After preemptively shutting down potential body shamers, Anne Hathaway is commanding the red carpet with confidence.

The 35-year-old actress, who revealed earlier this month she’s putting on weight as she prepares for a new role, stepped out at CinemaCon on Tuesday alongside her Ocean’s 8 costars Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Awkwafina.

Hathaway stood out in a sleeveless embellished gown by Bottega Veneta. The white dress, which fell to her mid-calf, was covered in colorful stud details. She finished off the look with sky-high, peep-toe heels, gold hoop earrings and a blowout, wearing her hair parted down the center and tucked behind her ears.

Hathaway shared a video of an intense workout routine to her Instagram page on April 5, in which she ran through bench presses, ab exercises, push-ups and more.

“I am gaining weight for a movie role and it is going well,” she captioned the post. “To all the people who are going to fat shame me in the upcoming months, it’s not me, it’s you. Peace xx.”

She also added a cheeky note that she wanted to set her workout video to the Queen song “Fat Bottomed Girls” — “but copyright said no,” she explained.

Hathaway previously spoke to PEOPLE about learning to appreciate her post-baby shape after welcoming 2-year-old son Jonathan.

Tom Hardy Transforms Into Villainous 'Venom' in New Trailer

Tom Hardy’s anti-hero rasps in a deep voice in the first look of the scaly Spider-Man villain in footage shown on Monday at CinemaCon, a trade convention for theater owners, in Las Vegas.

In the scene set in a parking lot, Hardy’s Eddie Brock grabs a man by the throat and while doing so, transforms his human head suddenly enveloped by the distinctive black alien skull of Venom with large, slanted white snake-like eyes and a wide mouth filled with razor-sharp teeth that opens wide to reveal a reptile-esque tongue.

“I just have to say, being a part of this movie and playing Venom is truly a dream come true for me, because to be brutally honest, I was looking to do a movie that initially my son could watch,” Hardy said. “It appealed massively to me because he’s one of my favorite characters, and I chased after this movie both for me…and for my son.”

Footage shown at CinemaCon opened with journalist Eddie Brock in San Francisco, saying, “I’m a reporter and I’m pretty good. I follow people who do not want to be followed.” Brock’s attention is drawn to Doctor Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed), the head of the Life Foundation, an organization in the comics that used the symbiotes to create additional Venom-esque creatures. When he visits Life Foundation to report a story, he is quickly shut down, but when he returns to his apartment, Brock starts to feel sick and experience hallucinations and increased rage. A group of henchmen come to his apartment to kill him, but Brock discovers his enhanced combat skills and takes the men out, asking himself, “Why would we do that?”

As Drake sets his men to chase Brock, riding on his motorbike, to the streets of San Francisco, he starts to experience the full power of Venom, tackling his assassins with heightened agility and inhuman skills. When Brock is thrown off his bike and lands in a parking lot with a plethora of broken bones, a henchman comes after him and asks, “What the hell are you?,” just as the black alien substance starts to flow out of Brock and heal his broken bones. As Brock stands up, the scaly black skin covers his body and envelops his head into the familiar menacing face of the anti-hero.

In the official trailer released shortly afterwards, there’s are additional scenes featuring Jenny Slate playing an employee of the Life Foundation, who meets Brock secretly in a grocery store and gives him details of the company’s secrets, and of Brock dealing with Venom’s voice in his head.

“There’s no character out there quite like Venom; he’s the most awesome character in Marvel history,” said director Ruben Fleischer.

Hardy and Fleischer were joined by co-stars Ahmed and Michelle Williams, who plays Brock’s girlfriend Anne Weying.

“I happen to love superhero movies and I’ve always wanted to do one…but it was never right until now because I never wanted to play a damsel in distress, I wanted to play a woman who was strong and powerful in her own right,” Williams said.

Ahmed added, “Not only is this my first superhero film, but I’ve also always wanted to play a big movie villain, and that came true in this and especially against the wild power that is Tom Hardy.”

Venom is not a spin-off of Tom Holland-starring Spider-Man: Homecoming, but rather expands Sony’s ongoing Spider-Man universe and will be its own entity, primarily be based on the Lethal Protector and the Planet of the Symbiotes comics.

Venom: Lethal Protector was a limited series in 1993 from writer David Michelinie and artist Mark Bagley. The story followed Brock from New York to San Francisco, where he’s reinvented as more of an anti-hero as opposed to a Spider-Man villain. Planet of the Symbiotes, meanwhile, was a 1995 story that focused on Brock fighting an army of invading symbiotes — a symbiote being the living alien substance that takes over Eddie’s body and transforms him into the vicious wall-crawler.

After the success of Spider-Man: Homecoming last year, Sony Pictures is expanding the superhero franchise with the animated Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Lord teased that the film will be a “totally revolutionary style of animation. Shameik Moore will voice Spidey in the film, who is the alter-ego of Miles Morales, a half black, half Puerto-Rican high school student in Brooklyn.

“I’m not the only kid who imagined himself being Spider-Man,” Moore said. “As Stan Lee said, it’s really true that anyone can wear the mask.”

The pop diva, 37, brought her A-game during her first appearance on The Late, Late Show with James Corden‘s Carpool Karaoke segment on Monday night.

She belted out such hits like “Fighter,” “Dirrty,” and “Genie in a Bottle” alongside host James Corden, who seemed in awe of her vocal talent.

“How are you doing that with your voice?” Corden, 39, asked Aguilera after she had growled during a verse in “Fighter.”

“That’s an angsty thing, you’ve got to get your fighter on,” she explained, to which Corden responded he couldn’t copy her as he sounded “like I’ve got something trapped in my throat.”

The pair also spoke about Aguilera’s days on The Mickey Mouse Club, which she appeared in her youth alongside Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Ryan Gosling.

“Could you find yourself getting lost in Ryan Gosling’s eyes?” Corden asked her.

“I think there were crushes but I… I wasn’t on the train,” she said.

“Were you on the Timberlake train?” Corden asked, which caused Aguilera to appear flustered.

“Um, I think, there was like a… me and Britney… well now you know there was a thing back then.. it was a good time,” she said, struggling with her answer.

“He had swag. Back then he had swag,” she concluded. “But I know Ryan did have a crush on Britney. I think so.”

“She must be regretting that,” Corden said.

When the duo moved on to singing Aguilera’s 2002 single Dirrty, they surprised their audience with Melissa McCarthy, who gave a fierce rendition of Redman’s rap verse.

“You two know each other. You’ve known each other a while, yes?” Corden asked the two.

“We’ve known each other a while,” McCarthy said, nodding. “We did a picture together — Life of the Party.”

While the two have kept their romance under wraps since they first sparked dating rumors in May 2017, they couldn’t help but look happy in each others’ presence as they smiled at each other and held hands.

Johansson walked alongside the Saturday Night Live actor in an embroidered metallic dress with a black belt while Jost wore a black tux.

Before the big event, the actress, 33, also made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show where the host Ellen DeGeneres jokingly set out to tear the couple apart by sharing shocking throwback photo of Jost with a full-grown beard.

“He’s adorable, he’s funny. I’m happy for you,” DeGeneres said during the episode airing on Tuesday, “There’s a picture that John Mulaney, who was fantastic hosting Saturday Night Live, he posted a picture, a throwback of Colin with a beard.”

She continued, “I thought this was a disguise but that’s really what he looked like. Had you seen that?”

Johansson, 33, looked wide-eyed at the photo before saying, “I mean I can’t unsee it now. Oh my god, it is. Wow.”

“Have I just broke y’all up? Did I do something wrong?” DeGeneres asked.

Johansson continued to look shocked, saying, “I can’t say that that’s an image that I’ll ever forget.”

As for whether the Avengers: Infinity War actress liked to watch SNL, Johansson joked it was “hard to pick” who she liked best on the Weekend Update segment of the show.

“No, it’s not that hard to pick,” the actress said. “I guess I’m a Colin fan, I have to say.”

The couple made their first public appearance in November at the American Museum of Natural History Gala in New York City but skipped the red carpet that time. They’ve kept their romance private and away from most prying eyes despite having become romantically linked in May 2017, when the actress made a special guest appearance on the comedy program’s 2017 finale.

Aside from making jokes about her love life, DeGeneres also broached the subject of a standalone Black Widow film with Johansson and the actress said she believes “there’s room for it.”

“I think the only way to do it is if it were something that we’ve never seen before,” Johansson said. “Something groundbreaking and incredibly badass. But, you know, I think if anybody could make it happen, my boss, Kevin Feige could. I think it could be something really special. There’s definitely a lot of room there.”
