Elle Fanning is the alien queen of punk in How to Talk to Girls at Parties trailer

In the new How to Talk to Girls at Parties trailer, Elle Fanning is just a doe-eyed extra-terrestrial who learns to love the punk lifestyle in 1970s London and the punk-loving teen who introduced her to it. There’s also Nicole Kidman dressed as your punk fairy godmother commanding the children to “rise up!”

Neil Gaiman, the fantastical mind behind American Gods and Good Omens, wrote a short story in 2006 with this concept. Now, it’s being brought to life by the man who worked silver screen magic on Hedwig and the Angry Inch, John Cameron Mitchell.

Alex Sharp plays Enn, a London teen sneaking out in the dead of night for underground punk parties with his friends. On one such night, they come across a house party filled with teens who “must be from California” or something, but they’re actually an alien brood on Earth to complete a rite of passage. Then boy meets alien (Fanning’s Zann), boy falls in love with alien, alien throws up in boy’s mouth, alien falls in love with punk, and it becomes an all out punk vs. aliens showdown.

How to Talk to Girls at Parties didn’t quite get rave reviews when it premiered on the film festival circuit, but, again, it does have a Big Little Lies Emmy winner unwilling to be swallowed up by the establishment.

Romeo+Juliet director on Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes’ romantic pool scene

To read more Untold Stories, pick up the new issue of Entertainment Weekly on stands now, or buy it here. Don’t forget to subscribe for more exclusive interviews and photos, only in EW.

thanks to director Baz Luhrmann’s modern and sexy update of Romeo and Juliet.

William Shakespeare was thrust into the 20th century in Luhrmann’s 1996 film adaptation, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes as the titular star-crossed lovers. Capturing the essence of their ill-fated love story meant relocating the famed balcony scene to a swimming pool. (It still involved chain mail, though.)

Under love’s heavy burden do I sink
In the source material, Romeo scales a tree, just barely separated from Juliet on the balcony. In this iteration, Romeo would surprise Juliet as she waxed poetic alongside her pool, landing them in the water. “Shakespeare will be really funny one moment, so that you can have this direct emotion and sentiment the next,” Luhrmann says. “You know it’s going to end badly, but at that time, it’s romance. [We were] using the water so they can almost be together. It brought a sensual barrier that wasn’t a concrete barrier.”

What’s in a name?
Luhrmann was inspired by the grotto at Miami’s Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, so he had the pool painstakingly re-created on a set in Mexico, where the director was first to give it a test run. “The silliness of this is I started by getting in that armor stuff that Leo wore and walking around in water,” says the director, noting that Danes and DiCaprio would rehearse in the empty pool while it was still under construction.

Sin from thy lips?
The pool was filled with unheated water so that the actors’ skin wouldn’t turn red, and Luhrmann recalls the duo being game to take the plunge despite how chilly it was. “Really both of them were quite fearless; they tended to do everything themselves,” he says. “It was quite the nightmare of getting in and out, and then we had diving shots, and so it’s a whole lot of crazy, mechanical work to create a moment that seems intimate and beautiful and romantic.”

These violent delights have violent ends
Though it may appear seamless in transition, the moment when the two kiss in the water was shot in the pool as well as a small tank for close-ups. The scene ended up taking much longer to shoot than expected, a result of the choreography, iambic pentameter, and Danes’ specially-made aquatic wig. “Once she falls in, it’s an hour turnaround,” Luhrmann says of then-16-year-old Danes. “Remember, she’s in school, so we only got very limited time. You have to get these things really in one go. That’s why the scene has such a vibrancy, there’s not a lot of second chance with it.”

Watch the Dawson's Creek cast try to remember the lyrics to 'I Don't Want to Wait'

You can buy the full set of five covers here. Or purchase the individual covers featuring James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, Michelle Williams & Busy Philipps, or the original foursome online or at Barnes & Noble. Don’t forget to subscribe for more exclusive interviews and photos, only in EW.

You’d think the stars of Dawson’s Creek would have Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want to Wait” etched in their brains permanently, but the cast admits they can barely remember the lyrics.

“Not a chance,” Joshua Jackson said when EW asked the cast at our reunion if they knew the words to show’s theme song.

“Who would know all the lyrics?!” added Busy Philipps before belting out the verses she could remember.

As fans of the series know, “I Don’t Want to Wait” wasn’t originally planned as the theme song. “When we delivered the [pilot] presentation, we used [Alanis Morrisette’s] “Hand in my Pocket” because we didn’t have to clear the music for the presentation,” creator Kevin Williamson said. “Only when we had to go to series did we have to get clearances, and that one wasn’t available. [Morrisette] said no. Paula Cole’s was a song that they were already using for the promos, and so the WB said, “What about this song?” And I went, “I love it. I love it.” (Williamson did ultimately find a way to use “Hand in My Pocket” in the series finale when Pacey shows Jen some “found footage” — what was actually the original credits — of the four best friends.

So why don’t you hear the theme song when the show airs in reruns or on streaming today? (You’ll hear Jann Arden’s “Run Like Mad” which was used as the show’s theme song internationally.)

During the reunion interview, James Van Der Beek brought up the common gripe over the change in tunes.

“Sony did not make deals with all the musicians in perpetuity,” he said. “It’d be cool if someone figured out a way to put that actual original music back in the show. So if anybody at Sony is listening, it would be nice if they put the original music back in!”

Well, except for one artist, says Michelle Williams. “I don’t know, Chumbawamba, I could live without it.”

Iggy Azalea opens up about her friends and management staging an intervention

Iggy Azalea has revealed that her friends and new management team sent her on a “mental retreat” after staging an intervention.

The Australian rapper is set to release her second album ‘Surviving The Summer’ later this year. It will be the follow-up to 2014 debut ‘The New Classic’. Azalea’s previously planned ‘Digital Distortion’ was long delayed and eventually scrapped.

Speaking to Billboard, Azalea details how she recently teamed up with Demi Lovato‘s management team, who – along with “my friends that I work with” – asked her to attend a meeting in Arizona before suggesting that she spend two weeks working with mental health professionals to address anger and mental health issues.

Azalea says the mental health professionals spent time analyzing her turbulent childhood, while her camp have described the stay as a “mental retreat” that included “intensive therapy”.

“I thought I was coming in to speak about something else,” Azalea says. “Then they were like, ‘We think you need to go away to this place.’”

“They were like, ‘We think you’re really talented and you can go to the studio and make hits all day, but we don’t know if, you know, someone says something about you and you have a reaction it could ruin a branding deal. We need you to go and speak to these people and make sure that you’re mentally prepared to come out with new music.’ I didn’t want to go there — I didn’t like the idea of being sent away somewhere. I was pissed.”

Azalea says she finally agreed to the plan and found it useful. “I’ve never really sat down and had an honest conversation with professional people,” she explains. “It was good to say something to somebody who could give me the tools and information on how to make my life manageable when I’m feeling those things. So it was really useful — I’m glad that I went.”

Azalea shared a new song, ‘Savior’ back in February. The track features a guest appearance from Migos‘ Quavo.

Speaking to iHeartRadio about the song, Azalea said she had written it during a “really heavy period in my life where I’d had a lot of changes that had happened overnight.”

Sharing photos from the elaborate festivities on Sunday, the 20-year-old Lip Kit Mogul — and new mom — walked her fans through the tasteful decorations for the adult table and the more whimsical decorations for the “kid’s table.”

In addition to a colorful easter-egg sculpture centerpiece, the kiddie table was surrounded by pink chairs and white fluffy stools.

The new mother also found some time in the party to enjoy a drink with her friends, including Jordyn Woods, and take a trip down a giant blow-up slide.

Netflix 'Acquires' Seth Rogen's 'Mind, Body, Soul, Dreams and Doodles' in April Fools' Day Joke

Netflix announced Sunday that the Knocked Up star “entered into a lifetime deal to transfer full ownership of his personal autonomy” to the streaming service, an April Fools’ day joke complete with a news release and hilarious video of Rogen looking over his contract.

“I should have read this before I signed it,” the 35-year-old actor says after reading the terms and conditions of the agreement, which includes the “ability to frame you for murder and rights to film a docuseries about that murder and biopic starring John Goodman.”

The press release states, “‘As a general rule, I don’t really ‘read’ anything before I sign it,’ replied Rogen when asked about the deal, spilling some beer on his own head as he does the finger-symbol equivalent of air quotes. ‘That’s what Danny is for, he handles that for me, mostly,’ gesturing toward an elderly man in a poncho sleeping on the couch behind him. ‘Hey Danny!’ he shouts, unable to wake his senior contract advisor. ‘I really hope he didn’t f— this up. He’s the reason that Zach and Miri Make a Porno exists.’ ”

A longer video of Rogen hilariously going over his contract appears on Netflix’s user homepage, with the tagline, “Netflix has acquired the mind, soul, body, dreams and doodles” of the actor.

With those rights, Netflix announced they would also be using Rogen’s recognizable chuckle as a replacement for current laugh tracks for streaming sitcoms like Friends and That ’70s Show.

The press release also put forward a few other ideas for the actor, including a “live-action Shrek remake, starring Rogen as both the titular character, as well as that character’s love interest Fiona. There will also be other tasks considered, including some off-camera roles such as ‘executive foot massager’ and ‘Quentin’s back waxer.’ ”

The gag is a well-timed promotion for Seth Rogen’s Hilarity for Charity, a taping of a star-studded fundraiser which raises awareness about Alzheimer’s disease. The variety show — featuring Tiffany Haddish, Sacha Baron Cohen, Sarah Silverman and more — will be available to stream via Netflix on April 6.

Netflix is no stranger to teaming up with big celebrities for their April Fools’ day pranks. In 2016, a video of John Stamos having a meltdown at Netflix was “leaked,” and stars of Netflix shows gathered to warn about the dangers of binge watching the previous holiday.

Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One Tops Easter Weekend Box Office

Studio estimates on Sunday say Spielberg’s virtual reality-focused film earned a solid $53.2 million in its first four days in theaters from 4,234 locations since opening Wednesday night, with $41.2 million of that coming from the three-day weekend.

Not adjusted for inflation, it’s Spielberg’s best opening in a decade following “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” which launched with $100.1 million in 2008. Aside from “The BFG,” Spielberg has lately favored smaller historical dramas instead of the big-scale blockbusters of his heyday.

Based on Ernest Cline’s popular novel and chalk full of references to 1980s pop culture, including some nods to Spielberg’s own films, “Ready Player One” is a return to the popcorn filmmaking that he became known for. With that includes a reportedly hefty $175 million price tag, which does not account for marketing costs.

Audiences gave the film an A- CinemaScore, and reviews have been warm, too (it’s sitting at a 76 percent on Rotten Tomatoes). Those who turned out this weekend were mostly male (59 percent) and over the age of 25 (56 percent).

“It’s great to be in the Steven Spielberg business,” said Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros.’ president of domestic distribution. “We always believed that this movie itself would carry the day and that’s really what happened. We’ve seen all around the globe that the word of mouth is really propelling it.”

Goldstein said while advance ticket sales were solid, the walk-up business was particularly robust on Friday and Saturday.

Internationally, the film exceeded the studio’s expectations with $128 million from 62 territories, including $61.7 million from China (the biggest-ever opening in the country for Warner Bros.). Globally it grossed $181.3 million.

ComScore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian said the performance of “Ready Player One” should be judged in the context of the marketplace, which is down significantly (24.1 percent) from last March and has seen nearly every film since “Black Panther” open in the “middling to good range.”

“None of them have set the world on fire,” Dergarabedian said. “We’re living in a world where a $52.3 million gross for the first four days is a really good number.”

“Tyler Perry’s Acrimony” took second place. Driven by an overwhelmingly female audience, the film starring Taraji P. Henson grossed $17.1 million over the 3-day weekend, followed by “Black Panther” in third place with $11.3 million.

With $650.7 million in domestic grosses, “Black Panther” is poised to pass “Jurassic World’s” $652 million to become the fourth highest grossing domestic release of all time.

A batch of faith-based films also competed for attention leading up to the Easter holiday, including “I Can Only Imagine,” which scored again with $10.8 million to take fourth place. It outshined “Paul, Apostle of Christ,” which earned $3.5 million in weekend two and the new opener, “God’s Not Dead: A Light in Darkness,” which stumbled with $2.6 million. Even Wes Anderson’s “Isle of Dogs,” playing in only 165 locations, beat “God’s Not Dead 3” with $2.8 million.

“Pacific Rim Uprising” rounded out the top five with $9.2 million, down 67 percent from last weekend’s No. 1 opening.

The year is still down nearly four percent, too, but there are some superheroes on the horizon.

“The cavalry is on the way in ‘Avengers: Infinity War,'” Dergarabedian said.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to comScore. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.

1.”Ready Player One,” $41.2 million.

2.”Tyler Perry’s Acrimony,” $17.1 million.

3.”Black Panther,” $11.3 million.

4.”I Can Only Imagine,” $10.8 million.

5.”Pacific Rim Uprising,” $9.2 million.

6.”Sherlock Gnomes,” $7 million.

7.”Love, Simon,” $4.8 million.

8.”Tomb Raider,” $4.7 million.

9.”A Wrinkle in Time,” $4.7 million.

10.”Paul, Apostle of Christ,” $3.5 million.

Neil Patrick Harris pays tribute to Doogie Howser, M.D. creator Steven Bochco

Harris worked with the acclaimed television producer on his hit ABC comedy Doogie Howser, in which he played a teenage doctor trying to practice medicine while still living his life as a regular kid.

“I’m terribly saddened by the news that Steven Bochco passed away yesterday,” the A Series of Unfortunate Events actor wrote on Twitter. “He was a true game changer in television. His work ethic shaped mine, his words of wisdom stick with me to this day. I’m so proud of Doogie Howser, mostly for being a Bochco show. #quality #mentor #RIP”

Bochco, who was the mastermind behind beloved shows such as NYPD Blue, Hill Street Blues, and L.A. Law, died of complications from cancer after battling leukemia for years. “Steven fought cancer with strength, courage, grace and his unsurpassed sense of humor,” his spokesman said in a statement to THR. “He died peacefully in his sleep with his family close by.”

David Pressman — whose father, Lawrence Pressman, played Dr. Benjamin Canfield on Doogie Howser, M.D. — also expressed paid respects on Twitter, recalling times he spent at Bochco’s home as a child. “He was always so nice to me and continued to be nothing but gracious to me whenever I would see him as I got older,” he wrote.
