Katy Perry‘s halftime performance at yesterday’s Super Bowl will hold many distinctions when all is said and done. It was the first set to feature a giant robot lion. It was the first to feature Missy Elliott. It was the first to feature dancing and singing sharks and beach balls.
And now, Katy Perry holds the distinction of being the most watched halftime show in NFL Super Bowl history. The previous title was held by Bruno Mars from last year’s event, and the title begins to look a little more obvious through this lens. Yearly, there are more potential viewers for the Super Bowl, and ratings tend to increase, making the feat a little less impressive.

Things look better for the Katy Perry show when (as Billboard points out) it is noted that the halftime show half-hour block outperformed every 30 minute block of the event except the last 40 minutes of the game, when things got ridiculous as the Patriots mounted their comeback and the Seahawks nearly answered back.
All said, 118.5 million viewers tuned in to see Katy Perry, up 3.2 million viewers from Bruno Mars last year.
