Sonic Youth founding member Kim Gordon has made a number of headlines of late with the provocative content of her memoir, Girl in a Band, released today.
But one of the headlines seems to be a little premature. It was reported based on pre-release copies that Gordon took aim on pop singer Lana Del Rey in the book, with the questionable line, “If she really truly believes it’s beautiful when young musicians go out on a hot flame of drugs and depression, why doesn’t she just off herself?”

Now that the book is actually available, Pitchfork is reporting that the line has been changed in its final release, now saying “Does she truly believe it’s beautiful when young musicians go out on a hot flame of drugs and depression, or is it just her persona?”
Now word on whether the change came as a result of the very vocal outrage from fans of Del Rey, or if they just forgot to change the promotional copies during the editing process. Regardless, the change is a good one.
