The Joshua Tree Made Famous by U2 Has Been Vandalized

By Philip Cosores

U2‘s 1987 album The Joshua Tree isn’t named after just any old Joshua tree, or after Joshua Tree as a region or the general representation of the plant. No, there is a very specific Joshua tree for which U2 named their classic LP, and it has been attacked.

Reports are that the famed desert tree, which looks kind like a cross between a cactus and a Christmas tree, has been defaced, Via a fan, known as “Hwy 190,″ on a U2 fan site, via Consequence of Sound :

“This past Sunday, I made my proverbial yearly hike out to the Tree with my dog to reminisce only to find that some hack and I do mean hack, decided it was a bright idea to take a hacksaw to one of the Tree’s limbs – evidently to remove an inch thick cross section as a souvenir. Are you kidding me?”

There is even a picture of the tree damage, though it is hard to really make out what the tree looks like now. There is also no word yet on who took their own bit of history by chopping off the limb.
