A recent study claims that mothers of toddlers are giving their kids coffee at an alarming rate. Fifteen percent of 2 year olds were given a jolt of java a day according to the report, conducted by the Boston Medical Center’s Division of General Pediatrics and published in the Journal of Human Lactation.
The study spoke to 315 mothers in the Boston area and was funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Eighty percent of the parents giving their child two teaspoons or more of coffee per day were Hispanic, the researchers said. Experts say the health risks of giving caffeine to young children are many – from cariovascular issues to it leading to childhood obesity.
Kids are enjoying coffee culture safely in Brooklyn, New York where steamed-milk only “babyccinos” are popular with the play date set.
