Running Playlist: 21 Songs In Honor of the 2015 Boston Marathon

By Radio.com Staff

In honor of the Boston Marathon today (April 20), we’ve created a running playlist. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned runner, or aren’t a runner at all and just need a little motivation at work each morning, these 21 songs are sure to get your blood pumping.

As with any playlist, there’s an art to making the perfect fit for your race. The first few songs need to psyche you up to finish that first mile and once you accomplish that, some slower songs are needed to keep you breathing and relaxed throughout the entire route. As you near the finish line, the more upbeat the better.

For our playlist, we started with the more upbeat and playful Destiny’s Child hit with plenty of drums as heard on “Lose My Breath.” Then, Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson keep the pace going with “Uptown Funk.” Twenty-two minutes in may be a struggle, but not when you hear Taylor Swift‘s appropriate “22.” Then we mix in some Bruce Springsteen to help keep you dancing en route to the finish line.

Things slow down with Vampire Weekend‘s “White Sky,” Sheppard’s “Geronimo” and Florence and the Machine‘s “Dog Days Are Over” to remind you to keep at a steady pace and keep breathing. Thanks to Britney Spears, Miranda Lambert, Gaslight Anthem and Beyonce once again the finish line doesn’t seem so far away. And of course, once you cross it there’s plenty reason to celebrate and be “Happy.”
