Naturally, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard Released Their ‘It’s All Going to Pot’ Video Today: Watch

By Marissa G. Muller

Is it really 4/20, a.k.a. National Get High Day, if Willie Nelson doesn’t acknowledge it? This year we won’t have to find out as the stoner kingpin and fellow country legend Merle Haggard released the video for the first single from their joint album (get it?), Django and Jimmie.

In the clip for “It’s All Going to Pot,” premiered on Conan O’Brien’s website, you can see the two greats at work in the studio, recording the track, palling around and, yeah, partaking in 4/20 activities.

Their weed smoking is mirrored in the lyrics like “All the whiskey in Lynchburg, Tenn. / Just couldn’t hit the spot / I’ve got a $100 bill / You can keep your pills / ‘Cause it’s all going to pot.”

The track, like the rest of Django and Jimmie, was produced by Buddy Cannon. Even though “It’s All Gone to Pot” perfectly summarizes Nelson’s disposition, the pair actually think the title track is the best cut on the record.

“The title track is about Django Reinhardt and Jimmie Rodgers,” Nelson said according to The Boot. “Both of those guys were very influential in both of our careers.”

“It’s really good,” Haggard continued. “I think it’s the best one we’ve done. We didn’t really do any swing, per se, we just did straight-ahead songs that we felt good about.”
