R. Kelly Sued for Allegedly Breaking Up a Couple’s Marriage
R.Kelly has got himself into more legal bother as he is currently being sued for allegedly breaking up a couple’s marriage.
The suit was filed by a Mississippi sheriff’s deputy named Kenneth Bryant. He is claiming that his marriage with Asia Childress ended because of a “years long” affair with Kelly. Bryant is seeking unspecific damages, reports Billboard.
Bryant filed in Mississippi which is one of five states that allows for ‘alienation-of affection’ lawsuits. This means that an outside party can be held responsible by a spouse for breaking up a marriage.
Childress and Kelly had a relationship previous to Bryant’s involvement and marriage to Childress in 2012. The lawsuit claims, “Time after time, R. Kelly cuckolded Bryant, with blatant disregard for Bryant’s and Childress’ vows”.
Kelly has not responded to the lawsuit yet.
This isn’t the first time R. Kelly has been called up on charges publicly. In 2002, Kelly denied that he was the man who appeared to be urinating on a girl in a sex tape. Later that year, he was indicted for counts of child pornography. In 2007, Kelly was found not guilty on all 14 counts levelled against him.
The petition reads: “Let’s send a message that the music is not ‘separate’ and the abuse of girls and women is *never* okay, no matter who you are or how many timeless ballads you’ve contributed to the world.”

Selena Gomez Responds to ’13 Reasons Why’ Backlash
Selena Gomez has responded to the backlash faced by controversial new Netflix show 13 Reasons Why.
Executive produced by Gomez, 13 Reasons Why launched on the streaming service on March 31. It tells the story of a teenage girl who reveals the reasons she committed suicide through a series of tapes sent to members of her peer group.
Recently, an Australian mental health charity warned that 13 Reasons Why contains “dangerous content”. Actress Shannon Purser – Barb from Stranger Things – has also said she thinks the show isn’t suitable for some more vulnerable viewers.
Now speaking to the Associated Press, Gomez has said: “We stayed very true to the book and that’s initially what [author] Jay Asher created was a beautifully tragic, complicated yet suspenseful story and I think that’s what we wanted to do. We wanted to do it justice and, yeah, [the backlash is] gonna come no matter what. It’s not an easy subject to talk about, but I’m very fortunate with how it’s doing.”
She also told E! News that the controversy could open up a dialogue about teen suicide, adding: “I just wanted it to come across in a way that kids would be frightened, but confused, and in a way that they would talk about it because it’s something that’s happening all the time.”

13 Reasons Why is already the most tweeted-about show of the year.
The show’s writer has previously responded to criticism of the way it portrays suicide.
“When it came time to discuss the portrayal of the protagonist’s suicide in 13 Reasons Why, I of course immediately flashed on my own experience,” writer Nic Scheff said. “It seemed to me the perfect opportunity to show what an actual suicide really looks like – to dispel the myth of the quiet drifting off, and to make viewers face the reality of what happens when you jump from a burning building into something much, much worse.”

Vin Diesel Wants a Groot Spin Off Movie
Vin Diesel has discussed the potential for a spin off movie starring his ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ character, Groot.
Diesel, who voices the green superhero in both Guardians of the Galaxy’ films, has said he sees great possibilities for a spin off movie.
Groot, who only says three words in the films – “I am Groot” – is the hired muscle and sidekick of Rocket Racoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper.
Despite dying in the first of the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films, writer and director James Gunn chose for the character to be reborn as Baby Groot in the second output.
Diesel, who is most recently known for his role in the Fast and Furious franchise, recently suggested that a Rocket and Groot spinoff discussion is underway.
According to USA Today, the 49-year-old actor is particularly fond of the idea of Groot fighting fellow green superhero, Hulk.
He said: “James Gunn has always wanted a Rocket and Groot movie,”
“And I know that Disney is very much into being successful.
“And the most successful poster in Disney’s future is the poster that has ‘Groot vs. Hulk.’ … (The world) cannot wait to see it.”
Speaking of the idea on the red carpet of the World Premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 this week, director James Gunn reportedly didn’t dismiss the idea completely, but did “chuckle.”
He said to USA Today: “Vin has a lot of ideas. I don’t know where he comes up with these things! I love Vin.”
Recently, Marvel did announce that Groot would be getting his own comic book series, so could Disney follow suit with a spin off movie in the future?
Recently, NME spoke to Chris Pratt about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, while Vin Diesel has reportedly signed up for another Fast and Furious movie, along with The Rock.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 is out today (April 28) across the UK.

Damon Albarn says He’ll ‘Never’ Work with Adele
Damon Albarn has spoken out to reveal that he’ll ‘never’ collaborate with Adele.
The pair famously attempted to work together on Adele’s record-breaking 2015 album, ’25’ – but it ultimately came to nothing.
Albarn told The Sun at the time: “Adele asked me to work with her and I took the time out for her… Will she use any of the stuff? I don’t think so”
He added: “The thing is, she’s very insecure. And she doesn’t need to be, she’s still so young”. Albarn also described her new music as “middle of the road”.
“It ended up being one of those ‘don’t meet your idol’ moments,” Adele later revealed. “The saddest thing was that I was such a big Blur fan growing up. But it was sad, and I regret hanging out with him.”
While Albarn later described any rumours of a feud as ‘pathetic’ and ‘not even true‘ (later adding that he ‘enjoyed having a cup of tea with her‘), the Blur turned Gorillaz frontman has now ruled out the chances of them ever working together again.
Speaking to The Sun about the success of Gorillaz second album ‘Demon Dayz’, Albarn said: “It wasn’t quite Adele but I will never be Adele . . . or ever work with her!”
Albarn made headlines again today when former Britpop rival Liam Gallagher slammed him as a ‘gobshite’ and a ‘dick‘ – as well as taking aim at brother Noel for collaborating.
“Now that dick out of Blur and the creepy one out of Oasis need to hang their heads in shame as it’s no ‘Dancing In The Streets’ – as you were,” he Tweeted. “That gobshite out of Blur might have turned Noel Gallagher into a massive girl but believe you me, next time I see him there’s gonna be war.”

Ed Sheeran Reveals His Role in ‘Game Of Thrones’ and Discusses Film Project
Ed Sheeran has revealed the nature of his role in the upcoming ‘Game Of Thrones’ season seven, as well as discussing future projects in film and with Taylor Swift.
Last month, producers confirmed that the ‘Shape Of You’ singer would be making a cameo in the hit fantasy show – partly to surprise actress and super-fan Maisie Williams.
Now in conversation with Tom Green from The Hits Radio, Sheeran has opened up about his experience in the series.
Describing a ‘star struck moment’, Sheeran said: “Taking a pee next to Kit Harrington before I knew him, obviously being a big ‘Game of Thrones’ fan.”
As for his upcoming cameo, Sheeran said: “I just do a scene with Maisie. I sing a song and then she goes, oh, that’s a nice song.”
Speaking of his part in GoT earlier this month, Sheeran said: “I do know which role I am going to play. I don’t die in it, I don’t die. I’m only in it for like five minutes.”
After revealing that his character doesn’t experience a grizzly fate, Sheeran continued: “I’d probably prefer to have sex than die in the show. I’m sure a lot of people are into that but I’m not.”
Elsewhere in his interview with The Hits Radio, Sheeran opened up about his upcoming film project.
“I’m working on one film, I’m gonna do the soundtrack of and star in and essentially help put together,” he said. “I wanted to do ‘Eight Mile’ meets ‘Notting Hill’.”
And as for whether or not he’ll ever collaborate with Taylor Swift, he added: “Eventually. We have spoken…There’s always been a plan to but I’ve just brought out an album. I believe she’s working on one. Yeah, we’re gonna.”
As well as headlining Glastonbury alongside Radiohead and Foo Fighters, Ed Sheeran’s upcoming UK tour dates are below. Tickets are available here.

Valley Queen Makes West Coast Rock with a Southern Soul
Valley Queen is one of those bands that reminds you of a guitar’s boundless potential. Their brand of crisp country rock is tight yet majestic and sunny yet soulful, recalling the ‘70s without simply relying upon nostalgia to engage the listener.
An integral part of their well-defined sound is singer Natalie Carol, whose gorgeous belted vocals compete with the guitars as the star in any given Valley Queen song, and whose Arkansan origins help to give this Los Angeles band their bluesy Southern flair. We spoke with Carol about her past and Valley Queen’s future shortly after the March release of their Destroyer EP.
Hometown: Little Rock, AK
Homebase: Los Angeles, CA
Describe your music to someone who's never heard it before.
Guitars that reach for expansiveness with big vocals. Reaching, longing sound, kinda aggressive.
How did Valley Queen first start, and how has the band evolved since?
VQ is an evolution from a band I started in college with Neil and another friend of ours. I had just loved to LA from Little Rock and band was the stabilizing force in my life.
How have California and Arkansas, respectively, influenced your music?
Environment has a huge impact on songwriting. I write how I do today because I've lived in Los Angeles for 8 years. I write a lot about living in Los Angeles and the effects a city has on a person and their approach to life. Arkansas is more influenced by the blues and country, and I stuck more to that sound there. I think now my music comments on that perspective I used to have as an Arkansan. I've felt pushed to explore new territory in LA.
What's your songwriting process like?
It's always in flux. I do try to keep open to songs coming in at any time, in transit, or in a new place. Movement and travel usually instigate writing for me once I'm home and still again. Or a band or sound I really like can conjure my own ideas. Sometimes songs come because I've been more diligent about returning to the guitar and practicing.
You wrote in the Huffington Post about Arkansas's “Right to Discriminate” act inspiring your single “Who Ever Said.” Did you draw upon political sources when writing songs for the Destroyer EP?
I think the songs end up speaking to current times somehow. I keep repeating it—the personal is political. What's happening in our personal experience is reflected in the current socio-political climate somehow.
What or who was influencing you, musical or otherwise, while recording the EP?
We did include a bonus track on the physical copy of the EP by the band Destroyer, whom the EP is named after. Dan Bejar has certainly been a later influence on our sounds, especially the album Rubies. He's a beautiful, romantic grump.
How was it recording with producer Lewis Pesacov?
Neil is also an engineer/producer and Lewis has been a mentor to him for a while. He's a big brother to the band. These songs on the EP we have been recording on and off for the past three years and he recorded all of them, so there was a lot of time to develop a relationship and rapport.
Any plans for future releases in the works yet? I'm impatient for more.
We are pretty impatient to get back in the studio. We have an albums worth of songs ready to record and want to experiment with new ways of achieving sound. We just now got this EP released so once we finish a few months of touring on it, we'll start getting studio time lined up somehow. It's certainly on all our minds.
What's the strangest experience you've ever had on tour?
Can think of a few. We played this rural town in Texas called Olney once. It was a one-street town. We closed the set with the song, "Ride". At the end of our set, a man brought a horse into the venue and said, “You said you gotta let me ride.” So I got on the horse and rode around the venue.
One random fun fact about Valley Queen?
Neil, Shawn and Gerry saved a man from a van on fire in the median of the street last night in New Orleans, Louisiana. I was home asleep. That's true.

Top 5 Album Releases of the Week
April is ending on a high note with lots of new music to be listened to. But after pouring through what seems like an endless list of new albums dropping this week, we've narrowed it down to our favorite five. First up, there's the long-awaited Gorillaz record, Humanz. Sylvan Esso are back with their latest album, What Now, while Lea Michele serves us up some feelings with her new record, Places. Cataldo returns with Keepers, and Little Cub makes their LP debut with Still Life.
Learn more about this week's new music picks below.
'Humanz' - Gorillaz
It's been a while since The Fall released. And when we thought that the Gorillaz were going to bed for good, whispers started sparking the return of the animated band. Though it seemed too good to be true, Humanz is finally here, and fans all over the globe are ecstatic for it. Just look at the the millions of views that their audio clips have been getting on their YouTube channel, and that's without the full record releasing yet.
Let's also not forget the group of Gorillaz fans who made it to Brooklyn earlier this week to see Damon Albarn and co. share the new tunes, along with the classics. So after all the waiting, is it worth it? Ask a Gorillaz devotee, and you'll get a resounding "Hellz yeah!"
Hardcore fans aside, you can't deny that Humanz is a solid piece of work that is not only full of great beats, but also strong messages. Lyrically tackling sociopolitical issues, the band — animated or not — push the limit on what they have to say, which we get from "We Got the Power" and "Ascension." Perhaps the only thing that can make the Gorillaz purist a bit conflicted is the inclusion of so many collaborators. From Vince Staples and Danny Brown to D.R.A.M. and Jehnny Beth of Savages, were there too many cooks in the kitchen? I'll go ahead and say that I welcome the different vocals and avenues the songs take. But don't just take my word for it, give Humanz a listen and tell us what you think.
'What Now' - Sylvan Esso
When Sylvan Esso brought the world "Coffee" in 2014, Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn brought an interesting blend of sounds that can be best described as "electronic folk."
And yes, while folk, at its heart, has that acoustic element to it, the timbre in Amelia's voice lends itself that natural rawness that we get from folk music that sounds so interesting on top Nick's beats. Trying to imagine that going together without giving What Now or their old stuff a listen will definitely not give you the sonic genius that beams from these two. The new album showcases their more modern sound mosaics like "Die Young" and "Kick Jump Twist" — a song that would be perfect in a Nintendo game. But that's not all.
The new record also offers more melodic pop songs that melds the different sounds together rather nicely. Take "Song," for instance. There's something very carefree and fun about the tune. "Rewind," the album closer, also has a nice tone that will soothe anyone's mind at the end of the day like a light spring shower in the middle of the afternoon. And if you've ever seen Sylvan Esso live, you've seen how hard they like to hit the stage. With What Now, the new songs will add more energy and dynamic to their live set, which I, for one, can't wait to see.
'Places' - Lea Michele
Lea Michele is back with her sophomore album, Places. And if you gave her first solo record, Louder, a listen, you'll be relieved to know that Lea has returned in the best way possible.
While Louder wasn't a bad album, there was something that seemed to take away from what Glee and Broadway fans loved about her: that voice. And with Places, it sounds like she realized that, too. Each of the 11 tracks on the album brings us the power of her vocals and reintroduces the singer as a power balladeer. "Run to You" is like a orchestral embrace while "Sentimental Memories" takes back in time. And even though "Believer" has more of that mid-tempo pop feel, it still rings like epic anthem.
Places makes me feel the same way i listened to Celine Dion's 1996 album, Falling Into You. So Places gives us this generation's Celine in Lea. And as a friend pointed out to me, there's definitely a group of people who thrive on that emotional, belt-worthy tunage — regardless of what age you are.
'Keepers' - Cataldo
After releasing his record, Gilded Oldies, Cataldo is back with a new set of tunes that are not only bigger, but will also fill a room.
Keepers will add more spring to your steps with lots of instrumental layers that make many of the songs sound like anthems. This is an interesting contrast to frontman Eric Anderson's laissez faire approach to the microphone. It's this relaxed tone that take the album from being too much or all over the place. And although there are softer sounds like "A Short Goodbye to No One in Particular," "Photograph" and the rock jam "Willow Tree" will get you hopping around. While Cataldo and Keepers may not be for everyone as they showed in this "market research" clip, there is something fun and quirky to love about this record. So take it for a spin and decide for yourself.
'Still Life' - Little Cub
After giving Little Cub's Still Life a listen, you'll be surprised to know that this is the South London band's debut album. Each song carries its own message and instrumental arrangement yet flows so fluidly from track to track. And while it might be their first effort at this whole LP business, it was their choice to take their time to put together a set of songs that tell a cohesive story — their stories.
But the time it took from the time they started collaborating back in 2013 to now wasn't all because of creative freedom. Producer Duncan Tootill was in the US while Dominic Gore and Ady Acolatse were in the UK. The transatlantic situation may have delayed new material for the fans they've garnered, but seems to have helped Still Life's cohesive sound.
Little Cub has done a good job of getting the feel of the dark and somber tones of British pop music while keeping things current with its beats. And as your swept away in the music like on "Closing Time" or "My Nature," you start to let the lyrics, which actually started as poems, and learn the messages that Little Cub is aiming to put out. Lyrically inspired by their every day lives, it is their soundtrack and hopes to get you to make it yours, too.

10 Seriously Underrated Superheroes
Batman and Spider-man may be household names today, but they better watch the throne. There’s a new gang of superheroes in town – and they’re ready to steal the proverbial crown.
Here are 10 seriously underrated superheroes ready to take up the mantle as America’s Favorite. Because, really, who needs more Funko Pop! figurines of the same dozen characters, just in different iterations of the same outfit...?
Silk
Cindy Moon, aka Silk, is Marvel’s first Korean-American female superhero.
Bitten by the same radioactive spider as Peter Parker, she has all the same powers as Spider-man (and then some). Unfortunately for her, she spent nearly a decade locked away in a bunker under the cruel and watchful eye of Ezekiel Sims. After escaping, and with a newfound taste for freedom, Cindy is determined to rejoin society as the superhero she never had the chance to be. Along her journey, she is joined by Black Cat and fellow arachnids Spider-man and Spider-woman. Silk brings a whole new meaning to New York’s Finest.
Martian Manhunter
With a name like J’onn J’onzz, the Martian Manhunter is easily the dopest superhero you’ve never heard of.
Hailing from the Red Planet, Martian Manhunter is the sole survivor of the M’yrnn Holocaust. His skills include being all-around Super — super-speed, super-strength, super-durability, super-stamina, super-hearing, super-vision, super-breath…the (absurd) list goes on. He’s also gifted with telekinesis, thought sensing, mind control, telepathy, invisibility and phasing. Essentially the swiss army knife of the DC universe, Martian Manhunter has been part of almost every iteration of the Justice League since its inception. His majestic green silhouette could make even Superman cower in awe.
Mockingbird
Mockingbird, aka Bobbi Morse, is so much more than Hawkeye’s on-again, off-again partner and lover — she’s one of S.H.I.E.L.D’s top agents and a top-notch biologist as well.
She’s been part of several high-profile Marvel teams, including the Avengers and the World Counter-terrorism Agency. One of the few without any superhuman abilities, Bobbi won over the respect and admiration of her superhero colleagues with her combat abilities, hard work and intelligence alone. Mockingbird’s got all the right ingredients to make a stellar leading lady — now all she needs is the chance to use her wit and grit alongside the big boys.
Shazam
His name may sound corny, but it actually has a super cool origin.
Each letter stands for the name of an ancient hero whose gift he embodies. S for the wisdom of Solomon, H for the strength of Hercules, A for the stamina of Atlas, Z for the power of Zeus, A for the courage of Achilles, and M for the speed of Mercury. I mean, considering some of our most beloved superheroes have names like Batman, Spider-man, Superman, and Iron Man…
Black Cat
Part-time hero, part-time criminal, Felicia Hardy is a full-time HBIC.
Black Cat has a complicated (and dramatic) relationship with Spider-man. As a skilled burglar with a penchant for shiny and expensive things, she and Peter were often on opposite sides of the law. Nevertheless, neither could deny a mutual attraction and affection for each other, making their eventual romance the stuff of CW shows. Initially apathetic by the man behind the mask, Felicia grew to love and admire Peter Parker even more than Spider-man, and eventually discovered her own unique brand of heroism. Felicia plays by her own rules and is one of the most interesting and multidimensional characters in the Marvel universe.
Beta Ray Bill
Beta Ray Bill may look like the love child of a horse and a bar of gold, but don’t let his unheroic looks fool you — he’s the only Being able to wield Mjolnir outside of the Norse pantheon.
In fact, currently he’s more worthy than Thor himself to swing the mighty hammer. To honor his noble and courageous spirit, Beta Ray Bill was granted his own war hammer Stormbreaker, the equal to Mjolnir. But that’s peanuts compared to the awesomeness that is his sentient warship Skuttlebutt. Yes, you read that right, a SENTIENT warship named SKUTTLEBUTT. So yeah, we think that (and of course his kind and brave heart) makes him worthy of being on this list.
Shang-chi
Born in Hu’nan province, China, the Master of Kungfu is a superb athlete and martial artist, expert in numerous wushu styles.
Although decidedly human, Shang-chi operates at peak human condition and has defeated many superhuman opponents and allies. His mastery of chi and wushu makes him one of the greatest hand-to-hand fighters in the Marvel Universe. He’s fought against The Hand, teamed up with Colleen Wing, and even taught Spider-man some basic wushu after our favorite wall-crawler temporarily lost his spider-sense. Note to Netflix: Here’s the Iron Fist we deserve AND need right now.
Metamorpho
For a guy who can turn his body into any element, Metamorpho — aka Rex Mason — sure flies under the radar in the D.C. Universe.
Quite frankly, I blame it on his uninspired name. Unlike '80s sportswear, the name Metamorpho did not stand the test of time. Still, this character is super versatile and the possibilities are limitless. Theoretically, he could survive every conceivable physical phenomenon known to science — immortal and indestructible except in the event of a space-time singularity. That being said, it’s not like comic book science is bound by physics…
Moon Knight
The Batman of the Marvel Universe, Moon Knight is yet another unsung hero who lives in the shadows of his flashier, brightly-colored colleagues.
Unlike many so-called “street-level” superheroes who now save the universe from certain doom every other Monday, Moon Knight has kept his nose to the ground doing what he does best: taking out the trash. Plus, in an age where superheroes are regularly overpowered with no apparent explanation or end in sight, Moon Knight — real name Mark Spector — has remained surprisingly relatable. He usually has no superpowers, instead relying on his expert detective skills and hand-to-hand combat skills to get the job done. In other words, he’s cool as heck.
Skaar
Skaar is the son of Hulk and Caiera the Oldstrong.
Skaar has a complicated relationship with his parents, having been banished by his mother and neglected by his father. This leads him down a seriously destructive path. As the progeny of Hulk and Caiera, Skaar wields the Old Power, which allows him to manipulate earth and stone (think Earth and Metal Bending from Avatar the Last Airbender) and has incredible strength. More an antihero than a traditional superhero, Skaar is the perfect character to all help us channel our inner Emo 8th grader.

Rumbled. You had a decent run, but security are onto you. They’re chucking you out. Look what you did.
01:05
Your pals are still in there, now what?
01:10
Phew, the whole group has been chucked out. They’re all blaming you, and one of them throws a hissy fit. Bit much, that.
01:15
Nevermind, that place was rubbish anyway. Everyone’s getting food now. Sweet, sweet kebab. Bliss.
02:00
Food’s done and back to a friend’s flat. Someone’s got the karaoke out. Time to prove how much of a pro you are.
02:30am
Things are getting a bit silly.
03:00am
Flitting from room to room, having a blast. You never want this night to end.
03:30am
It’s taken a turn. A few shady randoms have turned up. Your stomach is doing somersaults. You’re questioning everything.
04:00am
Thank god for Uber. Sweet, sweet, home time.
09:00am
You’ve woken up, and you’re feeling a tad fragile.
09:30am
Let’s check the bank statement…
10:00am
The situation is desperate. You need some food. It’s time to brave the outside.
10:05am
Out we go. Is it always this bright!?
12:00pm
Food sorted, you’re feeling a bit more human. ‘About tonight?’ a pal asks. Absolutely.

Man Admits Plotting Terror Attack at Elton John Hyde Park Gig
A teenager from west London has admitted plotting a terror attack that could have targeted an Elton John concert in Hyde Park.
Haroon Syed, a 19-year-old from Hounslow, pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey today (April 27) to a charge of preparation of terrorist acts.
According to the BBC, the court heard that Syed had looked into buying explosives online and researched busy areas of London to target.
One potential target was Elton John’s gig in Hyde Park on September 11 last year – the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks. Syed also looked into targeting Buckingham Palace and Oxford Street, Europe’s busiest shopping street.
Syed was foiled when he revealed his plans on social media and on his mobile to a fake contact created by the security services. He told the contact he was intending to “do martyrdom” after doing “some damage with [a] machine gun”.
He is due to be sentenced in June following a psychiatric report. Judge Michael Topolski QC told the court today that Syed is now facing a “discretionary life sentence”.
Earlier this week, Elton John cancelled a series of concerts following a stay in intensive care.
The singer is understood to have caught “a harmful and unusual bacterial infection” while on tour in South America, but “is expected to make a full and complete recovery”.

Menace Beach Turn a Curse into Lemonade
There are plenty of old wives tales and superstitions that seem a little too far out to take seriously, but what if you became convinced that one was true? In the case of English band Menace Beach, band-leaders Liza Violet and Ryan Needham discovered they were on the receiving end of a citrus curse after a bag of lemons was left at their door strep. Their latest album Lemon Memory is in tribute to coming out the other end.
Released earlier this year, their sophomore effort crosses throbbing synths with surefire guitars for a hybrid sound that walks the line between psychedelic and alternative rock, but in a way that their sound transcends either genre to belong unique to them. Violet and Needham trade off on vocal duties while a rotating cast of backing players help to fill out the band and add further dimension to their sound.
We spoke with both Violet and Needham about how their collaboration initially began, the importance of album art and why you might find them soundtracking digging around in the dirt in the future... Hop to the next page to read the full interview.
Hometown: Derby, England
Homebase: Leeds, England
How did your collaboration first take shape?
Ryan: Menace Beach started when we moved Leeds together. We didn't know anyone so we used to stay in and write these funny little organ songs. It really started as a recording project and we never planned on showing anyone or playing live or anything, but then we met and recorded with MJ, did a Too Pure single and it just kept going.
If you were to creatively describe your sound, how would you?
Liza:That's a tough question, too much vibrato probably. I always make everything sound wobbly.
What do you draw inspiration from?
Ryan: It varies from record to record, the first album was influenced by moving to a new city and the last one by a book we found on cults through the ages. It depends what we're doing in our lives at the time.
What artists do you feel have had the most impact on your sound? How so?
Ryan: When I was a kid the music playing in our house was stuff like Queen, T-Rex, The Beach Boys, Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac; 70's and 80's pop stuff. From there I found some old cassettes with The Kinks, The Hollies, The Troggs, Pink Floyd, The Beatles. Liza listened to a bit more electronic stuff growing up like add n to x and aphex twin, I think that's what first got her into synthesizers.
What's your song-writing process like?
Liza: We definitely have different roles, which is good as we tend not to tread on each other's toes too much. Ryan's more involved with structure and chords and I get really into the details of sounds and making silly guitar and synth solos. For "Maybe We'll Drown," Ryan had the stomping drums and chords structure, I added the organs and cyclical guitar lines and solo, then we worked on the vocal melody together at the end.
How was the collaboration different for Lemon Memory versus your first album Ratworld? Are you already thinking about an approach for your next release?
Liza: We wanted to avoid relying on tons of fuzz guitars on lemon memory and have a bit more space. We tended to start with drum loops and synth or guitar lines and then chop them up into some sort of song where as Ratworld was all written on guitar. I'm not sure where we'll go next, we're still at the messing around stage right now.
You did a scratch-and-sniff cover for your vinyl — how did that come about and how important is album art to you? What are some of your favorite album art/most memorable?
Liza: It's really important to me and I really love that part of making a record, I always make sure we do it all ourselves even when we're totally running out of time. I do the hand drawing and Ryan is the one with all the screen printing and Photoshop skills. The scratch and sniff part was actually Ollie from our label's idea, it smells a lot like bathroom cleaner but it kept the van fresh on tour.
If you were to soundtrack a video game, which would it be and why?
Liza: I'd love to do a Lemmings soundtrack, we could record ourselves digging around in the dirt.
Now that the album came out earlier this year, what's next?
Liza: We've started working on new songs, and have some shows over summer. I'm looking for a new synth to put all over the next record.

Watch Toussaint Morrison’s ‘Baby Gots Venom’ Video Exclusively on Myspace!
Over the course of his career, indie hip-hop soul artist Toussaint Morrison has proven himself to be both a top notch emcee, and an incredible soul singer. He has once again combined those talents for his latest single, “Baby Gots Venom.”
Myspace has the exclusive premiere of the video for “Baby Gots Venom,” which features Morrison opening up in his lyrics, and breaking it down on the dance floor. Watch the clip below and hop to the next page for an interview with the artist.
Wanting to know about about “Baby Gots Venom,” and the album it will be on, we caught up with Morrison to ask him about both.
Let’s talk about “Baby Gots Venom.” What inspired the song?
What inspired the song was my unwillingness to let people in. I had a tendency to omit my heart, and the truth, from a lot of my life when people would ask questions that went beyond the surface. I had my act down pat, and would simply deflect or deny anyone access to the vulnerable parts of me.
What propelled the song was the cyclical nature I found I had fallen into. It was a "different year, same scenario" situation for me for nearly a decade, and I was just devastated that I had been emotionally unmoving for so long.
I wrote the first verse to the song in 2014, and then didn't pick it up until late 2016. I sat down with guitarist Edward Folly, who I had worked with back in 2003 on the first recording I was ever part of, and given him a guitar riff that I had fallen in love with. We toyed with the riff, and constructed the blueprint for “Baby Gots Venom.” I then wrote the second verse a few days later.
Tell us about the concept for the video, and the unique way in which it was shot.
I had a visualization to keep the camera rotating at all times in the same direction. I came to director Kevin Obsatz with the proposition of having him shoot the video, and at first he was like, "Toussaint, I'm a documentary guy, I don't know if I'm the guy you want for this." I immediately knew then that Kevin was the right guy for the job!
I storyboarded the whole film down to the second, and then brought it to him with locations already negotiated. Kevin said yes, and the next step was scheduling Brittany (Benjamin) into the film and purchasing a stabilizer for Kevin's camera to give us the smooth fluid movement we needed throughout the film.
The style of the film is definitely unique to me, and the visualization I initially had for it was something I didn't want to compromise in any way, so it was either film it, or don't do it at all, and anyone who knows me knows I usually take action over inaction, so we went for it.
“Baby Gots Venom” is from your upcoming album, Lesser Restoration. What can you tell us about the project?
Lesser Restoration is one of those long-time-coming albums that will initiate a bevy of music to be released over the course of the next two years from myself and (producer) Dr. Wylie.
The Lesser Restoration project is a catharsis of music that I used for healing, revenge, and resolution. As any gamer will tell you, "lesser restoration" is usually an object that heals a character for a moment or so.
In the release of this album, each song will have artwork behind it from The Paper Prophet, who has done the artwork for all of my mixtapes. It drops on Friday, May 19, will go for CMJ radio adds on Monday, May 22, and will be celebrated vehemently on Friday, May 26 in Minneapolis, MN, at the Icehouse.
How would you define, or describe, your artistic growth from your previous album, to Lesser Restoration?
I'd describe my artistic growth over the past year as an act of letting go. I let go of what I perceived hip-hop, spoken word, or singing, to be, and went after the sounds I loved best.
I began to trust my visualizations, and writing, more, and then have the work engage with Wylie as openly as possible.
I used to hold to a stubborn view of the way I wanted my songs to sound, or be, and wouldn't waver in any way once I set on the path to make that specific song. Now, I write, and hum out the sounds of what's in my head to Wylie, or Edward, and we get moving.
Finally, watching “Baby Gots Venom” … where’d you learn those dance moves? Share your secrets, sir!
Ha! I think I stole a shimmy or two from John Travolta via Pulp Fiction!

‘Westworld’ Star Says Her Character Will Be ‘Completely Different’ in Season Two
Westworld‘s Evan Rachel Wood has hinted that viewers will see a “completely different” side to her character in season two.
Wood plays sentient robot Dolores in the HBO sci-fi western, which is exec-produced by JJ Abrams. At the end of season one, viewers saw the character undergo a significant transformation during the show’s much-discussed plot twist – and Wood thinks will affect her behaviour in season two.
“I’m really curious to see the unleashed version of her that we caught a glimpse of at the very end of the finale,” the actress told Entertainment Weekly. “Those final seconds, I think we were seeing a completely different side to her, completely different programming and completely off of her leash, so I don’t think she will be the same person; she’ll be an evolved version.”

Asked when season two is likely to debut, HBO’s Casey Bloys said recently: “My suspicion is sometime in 2018 because of how big the world is and what goes into shooting it. So I don’t have a date exactly — they’re going to have to map it out and write the scripts — but my guess is sometime in ’18.”

Everclear Basks in the ‘Afterglow’ 20 Years Later
Make no mistake, Everclear frontman Art Alexakis is excited about the 20th anniversary of the band’s celebrated album So Much for the Afterglow, but his excitement isn’t limited to his own accomplishments.
A proud father, he beams when he talks about his kids, especially his eldest’s scholastic honors. “My (eldest) daughter is the first one out of any Alexakis to get a college degree. Pretty impressive. I’m bragging here. Then she went to Oxford, became a Rhodes Scholar.”
A scholar in his own right, Alexakis is an admitted history buff, both musically, with The Art Alexakis Show — his Sunday night radio program on SiriusXM Lithium where he dives deep in to ‘90s alternative music history — and with his taste in books and films, as he’s currently deep into the Ken Burns documentary series The Roosevelts.
Myspace caught up with Alexakis to discuss some of his personal history, including the 20th anniversary of So Much for the Afterglow — for which the band will be touring in celebration of this spring — and some of the memorable moments from the wild ride Everclear went on as they became Top 40 radio superstars.
You’re celebrating the 20th anniversary of So Much for the Afterglow. Why do you feel this particular album has experienced so much staying power?
I think it’s a thing when you’re a teenager, or in your early 20s, when you discover something and it just feels like yours, and it just encapsulates a time in your life where that’s really really important.
As you get older, as you get into your 30s and 40s and 50s, you get excited about stuff, but it’s not really making that imprint into you that it would've maybe 20 years earlier.
I appreciate it, and I’m respectful, and I’m grateful for it, but it’s kind of weird when people start talking about me, and my band, like I talked about Aerosmith and Zeppelin. There’s a disconnect there for me. I’m like, oh no, that’s Led Zeppelin.
To this generation, Nirvana and Soundgarden and Pearl Jam and Everclear — bands like that (are their legendary bands), because that was their coming of age. I get it.
But you asked why this has staying power … I don’t know, man. I think it was a really good record. I worked my ass of on this record. I was coming from a lot of places where a lot of people were saying “Sophomore slump,” “One hit wonder,” and all this shit.
Part of my attitude that’s kinda gotten me through life is being able to say fuck you to people, even if they don’t know it. “Oh really? How about fuck you?” That works. If you back me into a corner, I start swinging.
Success is a really good fuck you.
Success is the ultimate fuck you.
All the people who wanna talk shit, all the haters who wanna hate … hate, go ahead motherfucker. I love that Taylor Swift song. [Laughs]
I got a 9-year-old and she wants to hear it all the time. I’ll be driving her to school, just boppin, “Haters gonna hate hate hate.” I’m sure all the crunchy punk rockers, if they saw me doing that they’d talk some serious shit, but you know what, fuck you to them, too. How about that? [Laughs]
I can openly admit there have been plenty of stoplights where I’ve been caught singing along to Taylor Swift.
They’re good fuckin’ pop songs. There’s no getting away from it, those are good songs. I’m sure she’s paying the songwriters well. I don’t know, but I’m sure she’s got access to the best. A lot of those people do.
People wonder why those artists keep coming up with great songs, it’s because they have access to the best songwriters. [They can] get 20 writers on a song, or 15 producers.
It’s funny, when I turned in the last Everclear record someone at the label came back and said, “You know, you gotta fill this out.” I’m like, “I did fill it out.”
“No, there’s only one producer on it.”
“Yeah, me.”
“No, there’s a space for all the producers. Like, who did the drums?”
I go, “I don’t know what language you’re talking. You’re not making any sense here. I produced the record. I actually co-produced the record, but that’s it, me and those two guys, we produced the record.”
It’s a different time.
Even though So Much for the Afterglow was your third album, it was the album that really launched you into the spotlight. What aspects of being TRL and Top 40 superstars were you completely unprepared for, and maybe overwhelmed you?
I just laughed a lot. It was really funny. If you see me on TRL, and all these kids are going AAAAH! Here’s NSYNC. AAAAAH! Here’s Everclear. AAAAH! Then they’re like, “Who? Is that my dad?” No, that’s the singer in the band. “Are you sure, cuz it kind of looks like my dad with blonde hair and a lot of tattoos.”
I just kept a sense of humor about it.
Someone asked me the other day, would I change anything on the record? Not on this record. There’s some stuff that’s a little out of key, out of tune, some weird stuff here and there, but I gotta say, there are some records where I’d change some stuff, but not this record. Being a little fucked up is part of its charm.
Imperfections aren’t necessarily a bad thing. Some of our favorite voices in music history are really terrible voices. Bob Dylan’s voice was awful.
Awful. Thank you for saying that. I was playing his greatest hits for my daughter, and I was like, who told this guy he could sing? But he did, and he changed popular music as we know it, at that period. He really had a huge impact on it, with that fuckin’ voice, because it wasn’t just the sound of his voice, it was what he was saying, and how he was saying it, and when he was saying it, and where those people were when they heard it. It was the whole thing. So I think that’s a really great analogy, and I agree.
You know, I don’t have a great voice. I’m not a great guitar player. I’m a decent songwriter, and when you put it all together, there’s a thing. I got a thing, and you either like that thing, or you don’t, but it’s a thing.
When I work with people I’m like, man, develop your thing. Develop your voice, not just your physical voice, but the voice of what you’re saying, how you’re saying it, all that stuff. Make it unique.
Nothing is 100% unique, because we’re all taking from history, we’re taking from our influences, but if you have the ability to put it all together and make it sound like you, then you got a thing.
You mentioned that you kept blinders on during the TRL and Top 40 radio years, but do you have a photo, or a piece of memorabilia, from that time that you feel captures the essence of how great it was?
Yes. There’s a few of them.
There’s a picture of me at RFK Stadium playing the WHFS Festival in ’96, and I’m on stage, and my hair is all long, and I’m wearing stupid shorts with my bony legs, and I got a nasty t-shirt on, I’m playing my Les Paul, but you can see the whole stadium is sold out, and you can see the people in the crowd have this crazy look on their face, and I’m just like, holy fuck, that’s me, doing that!
I remember that was one of the first shows where I started “Santa Monica” and the crowd just made this kind of roar. I looked at my bass player, and he looked scared. I was just like, holy fuck, this is like shooting dope, man. The rush I’m getting in my body is like dope, and orgasms, and everything all at the same time.
87,000 people all started singing my song, and I was just like oooook, OK, I get it.
I’ve seen it happen to other to people. I’ve seen it on the small level when I play the clubs, or the theaters, for 2,000, or 3,000 people, but 87,000 people all singing “Santa Monica” was just like holy fuck. Wow.
I hope you have that picture framed somewhere.
I don’t. I probably should.
There’s another picture from when we got our platinum records for Sparkle and Fade, and for Afterglow. Someone at Capitol put the two pictures side by side, and the best thing about it is we’re there with all the label guys, and blah blah blah blah blah, but next to me in both pictures is this little older women with this bewildered smile on her face. That’s my mom.
She flew down first class for it, and we went to this fancy restaurant, and we had a limousine that picked her and my sister up, and there were all these paparazzi taking pictures on a red carpet.
By this time, I wasn’t jaded to it, but I had experienced it. She was like “God damn, boy, is this all for you?” I was like, “Yeah, pretty much, me and the guys.” She goes, “Well, I gotta tell ya, I never thought you’d do anything with that guitar, but I’m glad I bought you that guitar for 40 bucks from that pawn shop.” I’m like, “I am, too. I am, too.”
She died probably 10 years ago, 11 years ago, but she got to see her boy, one of her children, have some success, and I got to take care of her last 10 years of her life pretty well, and that was pretty cool.
That’s very cool. Finally, I know you’re very politically active. It seems as though everyone is at each other’s throats right now. If you could give one piece of advice to people regarding surviving in this environment, what would it be?
I don’t fuckin’ know, man. I don’t know that there’s gonna be any easy way out of it. I know that’s not the happy answer you want, but I just don’t know.
Everybody’s entrenched. No one’s listening to the moderate voices. No one’s listening to [people like] John Huntsman or Joe Biden or these other people who want to get shit done, and realize we have to work.
If the Republicans are in power, OK, it’s gonna skew a little bit right, but it’s gonna be center-right, because most people are in the middle, they’re either left of center or right of center. But now you have this fringe, especially on the right, this alt-right, where they’re trying to make it look OK to be racist. No, motherfucker, it’s not OK. There, we’re entrenched. I put my back to the wall and I’m like, “Fuck you,” and they’re like, “Well, fuck you.” Where do you go from there? I’m interested in hearing ideas.
To be honest with you, I have a lot of faith in America, and the dream of America, and the ideal of America. I think we’re gonna be OK, but how we’re gonna get there, I’m not really sure.
I’m no longer sure if this form of government works.
It seemed like it worked there for a while, but even in the 1800s, after the Civil War, the rich 1% were pulling the same shit, driving us into recessions and depressions.
I was taught to see both sides of the argument, and try to find middle ground. I remember this old guy, when I first got in the music business, an old timer, famous record guy, he was like, every dollar splits in half, every dime splits in half.
I get the point. It’s like, hey man, I want this, you want this. Fuck it, let’s go somewhere in the middle.
He was the one who told me no one is happy with compromise, but you move things forward with compromise. I get that.

10 Celebrities Whose Careers Were Made (or Broken) by a Leaked Sex Tape
Making a raunchy music video or posing for a steamy photoshoot is one thing, but having real sex on camera is a completely different story. What makes so many famous people risk their careers and make private videos that often go public? Is it narcissism? Or a desire to capture on film the sexual height of your life? Whatever the motivation, these 10 celebrities had their names and bodies engraved in the sex scandals Hall of Fame.
Paris Hilton
Getty
You can’t be a proper socialite without a sex tape. That rule was established by Paris Hilton back in 2004, when her private video with then-boyfriend Rick Salomon was released by Salomon under a clever name, “1 Night In Paris.” The celebration of night vision camera and Paris’ sexual techniques turned the heiress into a tabloid darling overnight (pun intended).
Kim Kardashian
Getty
Remember the innocent days when Kim K was just one of the members of Paris Hilton’s squad? Kim clearly learned a thing or two from her famous friend. The sex tape in question was filmed by Kim and her then-boyfriend Ray J back in 2002, but made public in 2007 — just in time for Kim’s proper media arrival. There’s hardly anything truly shocking on the video, but culture-wise it was quite a momentum. So much so that PageSix recently ran an article entitled “The Kim Kardashian Sex Tape: An Oral History.” Classy!
Rob Lowe
Getty
Sex tapes/nude selfies may be all the rage among younger celebrities, but it’s hardly anything new. Just ask Rob Lowe, who made a private video of him having fun with not one, but two girls who he met at the club in 1988. He decided to film all the action, but didn’t expect the ladies to take off with the raunchy videotape while he went to bathroom. Next year, the recording was released and it was revealed that one of the girls was 16 at the time of the recording. Unlike Paris’ or Kim’s cases, Lowe’s Hollywood career was pretty much over after this scandal.
Pamela Anderson
Getty
Pamela Anderson may have been hailed as the '90s sex symbol with her stint at Baywatch and iconic spreads in Playboy magazine, but she went an extra mile in securing her bombshell status and made not one, but two sex tapes: first with Tommy Lee and then one with Bret Michaels. Girl just wants to have fun… and capture it on film.
Chelsea Handler
Getty
Stand-up comedian-turned-TV-host may mock Kardashians for their tacky ways, but she’s no stranger when it comes to stripping it all off herself. But long before Handler was posting hilarious naked selfies on Instagram, she made a sex tape in 2000 and re-cut it with her stand-up routine. Then she mailed the videotape to several agents. When the tape eventually leaked to the general public in 2010, Handler was already a well-established comedian, author and TV host. Take a note, you wannabe comedians.
Hulk Hogan
Getty
Anyone remembers Hulk Hogan’s short-lived mid-90s action series Thunder in Paradise? How about his 2012 sex tape with Heather Clem Cole? Running the grainy footage cost Gawker a hefty $115 million, so if you’re an editor thinking about making WWE star's sex video public, think again: you may be hit with a thunder of debts.
Vince Neil
Getty
A rockstar having a lot of sex is such a tired cliché that we’re cringing even typing it. But not every rocker goes as far as filming his sensual acrobatics. Yet Motley Crue’s Vince Neil thought it was a good idea to capture his intimate moments with porn star Janine Lindemulder and Penthouse model Brandy Ledford. With a cast like this, no wonder it became a hit on the adult market.
Gene Simmons
Getty
One more rockstar on our list, KISS’ Gene Simmons claims he had no idea that he was being filmed while having sex with an unidentified woman. We’re having a hard time believing the star of 2008’s video, since Simmons also claimed to have slept with almost 5,000 groupies and to have Polaroid snaps of his lovers (which he reportedly burned on the request of his wife Shannon Tweed).
Verne Troyer
Getty
There were many jokes in the Austin Powers franchise regarding “the third leg” of Mini-Me (Verne Troyer). If you actually want to find out how accurate the joke was, there’s a sex tape of the actor and Ranae Shrider that was posted by TMZ in 2008.
Usher
Usher
Before you go “Yeah!”, let’s clarify that the sex tape of Usher and his ex-wife Tameka Raymond never actually leaked. The video was stolen from the singer’s laptop in 2010 and a few years later was rumored to be circulating on the “adult black market.”
