Alison Brie describes people's shocked reaction to her wrestler role on GLOW

to discuss some of the things she loves about her hit Netflix series, GLOW.

“It’s not a straightforward comedy. It’s got a lot of dramatic elements, a lot of depth to it,” Brie says. “And then there’s f***ing wrestling.”

Brie describes being drawn to her character, Ruth, right away because she was unlike other female protagonists: “She’s got gumption, man! She’s got spunk!”

Brie says the show is about “women who are underestimated, and proving people wrong,” which she says happens to her as an actress on the show! “When I tell people I’m on a show about wrestling, they’re like, ‘You’re wrestling?’”

At Sunday’s SAG Awards, Brie is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series, while she and the rest of the GLOW cast are up for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

The 24th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, hosted by Kristen Bell, will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, Sunday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
