6 Dream Match-Ups We Want To See For The Hardy Boys

At WrestleMania 33, Matt and Jeff Hardy made their long awaited return to WWE and promptly won the RAW Tag Team Championships on their first night back. Thankfully pro wrestling is scripted, because everything lined up like a movie for the Hardys. Whether or not the legal hurdles can be cleared for Matt to return to being “Broken” and Jeff reverting back to his “Brother Nero” phase waits to be seen, but there’s exciting, new storylines on the horizon.

Having been away from WWE since 2009, there’s a plethora of new opponents and dream matches fans want to see. Being the tag champs, first they’ll defend their titles against RAW’s tag team division against the likes of Gallows & Anderson (The Club), Enzo & Cass, and Cesaro & Sheamus. As cool as those match-ups are, there’s more interesting and appetizing bouts on our wish-list. Putting on our fantasy booker hat, here’s six dream tag and single opponents for Matt and Jeff!

Jeff Hardy v. Finn Balor

The Charismatic Enigma versus The Demon King is worthy of a pay-per-view main event. Jeff Hardy has crafted a career and reputation as being the ultimate risk-taker that will jump off 20 ft. ladders, while crashing into a stack of unforgiving wooden tables. That high-flying, daredevil mentality is what has made Jeff into one of the most captivating and innovative stars ever in the ring. Jeff’s modern day equivalent is Finn Balor, a talented and creative wrestler in his own right.

With years in the ring, Jeff has influenced the current crop of wrestlers such as Finn, showing them it’s okay to push the boundaries and explore different facets of their personas (e.g. Willow). Both men have a penchant for body and face paint and love theatrical entrances. With Finn and Jeff on the RAW brand, don’t be surprised if this match happens sooner rather than later.

Matt Hardy v. Kevin Owens

This fantasy already has some real history. Back in 2013, Matt and Kevin Owens briefly crossed paths and battled in Ring of Honor (ROH), where they were even part of a stable called S.C.U.M. (Suffering, Chaos, Ugliness & Mayhem). Since then, both men have risen to new heights, so just imagine the hilarious and crazy promos/interviews they can deliver at this stage of their careers! This could be just as good, if not better than what we got with Kevin and Chris Jericho.

Matt versus Kevin is money. This isn’t one of those half-assed feuds WWE loves to throw together for just a month. They may have a stacked roster but WWE is currently lacking “Must-See-TV” storylines and feuds. Matt battling Kevin would definitely fill that void for the company. Using pieces of his “Broken Matt” character, Matt could “Delete” or make Kevin “Obsolete” in a bitter and enjoyable rivalry that hopefully comes around at SummerSlam this year.

The Hardy Boys v. The Revival (Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder)

We all know that The Revival “go hard, all day, all night,” so it’s only appropriate that these throwback, mat technicians get slotted into a marquee match-up with The Hardys. At the RAW after WrestleMania last week, both teams arrived on the red brand. Jeff and Matt returned as conquering heroes, hoisting up their newly won titles, while Dash and Dawson got called up from NXT, making their main roster debut by beating up The New Day.

Out of all of the options on this list, this will probably be the first match to happen, as The Hardys have the tag gold that The Revival want to get their hands on. The Revival’s motto of “No Flips, Just Fists” is very apropos against the high flying Hardy’s. Not only do both teams instantly bolster RAW’s tag team division, but the contrast in styles and personalities between the four men instantly creates an intriguing match on par from the tag team glory days of the Attitude Era as well.

Jeff Hardy v. AJ Styles

I can hear you already saying: “But we’ve seen this already in TNA.” That’s true, I’ll give you that. This falls into more of a reimagining than a fantasy match. Jeff and AJ Styles have fought at various stages during their time down in Florida. A 2017 version, however, would destroy anything they’ve given us in the past. Back then, Jeff was known to be dealing with personal issues, so he wasn’t hitting all cylinders. AJ wasn’t yet the big star that he now is, having really built the “Phenomenal” brand during his time in Japan and in WWE since leaving TNA.

The innovative high-flyers are now on equal footing and more than capable of delivering “OMG” high spots and amazing moves in a WWE match. Ideally a championship title would be on the line, but if not, getting a nice length program between the two would be that fitting bow to their past feud that honestly, wasn’t what it could have been.

Bray Wyatt v. Matt Hardy

One has “supernatural” powers such as projecting images of creepy crawlies onto the ring mat. The other speaks with a strange Shakespearean accent that has a drone acting as his emissary. That’s enough for me to know that Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy need to have a storyline together in WWE.

“Broken Matt” is known for putting together over-the-top Deletion productions at his North Carolina compound that would make Tommy Wiseau smile. Last summer, WWE ripped off their own version in a feud between The Wyatt Family and The New Day. That “homage” prompted a back and forth on Twitter between Matt and Bray, with Matt saying:

With both men now under the WWE umbrella, a long-anticipated feud is closer to happening. Bray, Sister Abigail and the rest of the Wyatt’s in one corner, and Matt, Brother Nero, Senor Benjamin and the rest of the Broken clan in another. There’s so many exciting possibilities that can make this feud the hottest thing in wrestling.

The Hardy Boys v. MeekMahan & The Man with Three H’s

A match filled with insanity, massive egos and over-acting…let’s book it! Vince McMahon loves wrestling former employees (e.g. Bret Hart & Hulk Hogan), while Triple H can’t resist a PPV match. So why not have them battle The Hardys?!

Matt has referred to Vince and Hunter as MeekMahan and The Man with Three H’s, in interviews and promos as a way to skirt around legal issues. Now that the brothers are back in WWE, having them feud against the men that run the show could be social media gold! There’s certainly enough heat and issues from Matt and Jeff’s previous time in Vince’s land to add some layers and tension to this rivalry. If Matt and Jeff are finally cleared to fully use their “Broken” characters, then all bets are off as to how crazy and wild this feud can get. Seeing Vince and his son-in-law Triple H arrive at the Hardy compound for a ‘Deletion’ style match would make all of the WWE Universe freak out in joy!
