Taboo the TV show, cast, trailers and what we know about season 2

What is Taboo the TV show?

The story begins when James Delaney (Tom Hardy) returns to England in 1812 for the funeral of his father after being in Africa for 12 years. Delaney had been gone for so long most people, including his sister thought he was dead.

Delaney’s reappearance means he inherits a patch of land that the sinister East India Company, The King of England and the newly formed American government all desperately want to get hold of, and they will do anything to get it.

The story is full of danger, gun powder and intrigue as leathery faced Londoners (and people from other countries) cross and double-cross each other in the swampy streets of Regency London.

Is there a Taboo trailer?

This is the FX channel’s trailer which gives you a good outline of the plot

The BBC trailer is also worth a watch it really gets across the gritty and dark atmosphere of the series.

What are the reviews of Taboo like?

Taboo got 8.7/10 on IMDb, and 79% on Rotten Tomatoes. Variety magazine are more mixed about it, ‘Ponderous and heavy-handed, this new period drama wastes its talented actors on chiaroscuro and angst.’ The Guardian are also unsure about it, ‘The new historical drama is seductive and atmospheric, if completely baffling.
The Atlantic’s response is more positive, ‘The FX show stars the British actor as a kind of Regency-era Jason Bourne, only with even bloodier methods.’
