Westworld Season 2: Cast, Trailer & Reviews

Westworld season 1 ended with a bang in 2016 and we simply cannot wait for it to get started again. Season 2 is in the making, and this article is going to look at what viewers can expect from one of HBO’s biggest surprise hits of the year.

The show spawned whole communities of armchair sleuths, all of whom set to work freeze framing and zooming in on the minutiae of each episode. A whole subreddit spawned from the show, a community of 205k who have already correctly guessed a plot point from episode 3 of the approaching second season.

The show is based on a 1973 film of the same name. The plot in a nutshell is… In some indeterminate near-future a Western-themed amusement park filled with semi-sentient robots (known as hosts) who are there to service the every (and I mean every) need of the guests. In becoming ever more lifelike the hosts are getting closer and closer to independent, critical thought. Which could obviously cause havoc when they realize that they don’t particularly enjoy being shot, molested and abused only to be patched up and sent out to do it all again the next day.

Who Stars in the Westworld Cast?

The show is full of glitzy names. That goes for the production team as much as it does for the acting stars. The show was created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. If the name Jonathan Nolan sounds familiar it’s because he is the brother of Christopher Nolan, whose film Dunkirk is out in July 2017. Previous to this he wrote the short story - Memento Mori, published by Esquire -  that became his brother’s 2000 breakthrough film Memento. J.J. Abrams - who is also involved in producing the latest Star Wars film, The Last Jedi - is an executive producer for the show.

The story follows many characters but particularly Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood), Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins, who has a role in the latest Transformers film), Maeve Millay (Thandie Newton), the Man in Black (stunningly portrayed by Ed Harris) and William (Jimmi Simpson).

It is expected that the majority of these characters will return for season 2 as well.

Westworld Season 2

Season 1 of Westworld proved a fan favorite, even if some of the critical reviews of it were slightly less positive. It was commissioned by HBO for a second season which is expected to drop in 2018. The reason for the delay is the sheer scale of the show and ambition of its creators.

That’s a long wait for fans who are desperate to see where Maeve and her band of butchers will end up. But with the small tease of Samurai World in the tail end of last season’s show you can expect the sets and team of actors to grow massively.

The new series will have 10, presumably hour long, episodes. And it is believed the creator's plan for the show to run to 5 or 6 seasons in total.

Where Can You Find the Westworld Season 2 Trailer?

At this point in time there is no Westworld season 2 trailer. Filming is in the very early stages and more will be announced throughout the year.

How are the Westworld Reviews?

It has been a case of the fans loving it and the critics taking a far more reserved tone. But despite this the first season rated at 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, all the while Metacritic rated it as 74/100.
