In Oscar-winning writer Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut, the Oscar-nominated actress stars as Molly Bloom, a.k.a. the Poker Princess, who ran one of the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker games, which led to her being indicted by the FBI.
“It’s not their names I’m protecting, Charlie — it’s mine,” she declares to her lawyer, Charlie Jaffey (Idris Elba), who wants to know why she won’t give up her famous roster of clients. “Because it’s all I have left.”
“I saw her as a very unique movie heroine, and thought there was an interesting way to tell her story,” Sorkin previously told EW. “God knows I was scared going into it. But I felt like there was a chance I could be good at it. I don’t mean good at directing, I mean good at directing this movie.”
