5 Best Celebrity Feuds Of 2016

We may claim we’re here just for the art, but let’s be honest for once: celebrity drama has always been giving us life. This year was no exception when it came to A-listers throwing online-punches at each other, getting into #fights over music videos, lyrics, mutual friends and broken hearts. Let’s remember the 5 biggest showdowns of 2016.

Taylor Swift Vs. Kanye West & Kim Kardashian

Okay, let’s start with the most famous one (pun intended). Yeezy just can’t get over his long-time brawl with Taylor Swift, even though by now it feels like it began in 1989 or something (another pun your way, sorry). Back in February, Kanye premiered his quasi-artsy music video for the Rihanna-assisted track “Famous,” which featured more than just Kanye and Rihanna. Very human-like versions of celebrities like Donald Trump and Taylor Swift were all naked, sleeping peacefully next to each in one huge bed. But it wasn’t the video that got everyone hot and bothered, but the lyric “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / I made that bitch famous.”

Taylor was understandably angry, but Kanye was quick to defend his art, tweeting “I called Taylor and had a hour long convo with her about the line and she thought it was funny and gave her blessings.” Taylor was happy to aim her Grammy win at him, throwing a classic subtle Swiftshade at the rapper saying during her speech: “…there are going to be people along the way who are going to try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.”

The feud dragged all the way to July, when Kim Kardashian posted the recordings of Kanye and Taylor’s phone conversation about the song. Taylor was furious, later, posting a long Instagram rant where she clarified that Yeezy never told her he was going to call her “that bitch” in front of the entire world. We have to give it to Tay-Tay — this is a pretty big detail to leave unmentioned.

Kanye West Vs. Wiz Khalifa

When you’re Yeezy, you can’t have just one big feud a year. When back in January West announced that his next album was going to be called Waves, Wiz Khalifa was quick to point out that the term “wavy” belonged to rapper Max B and that West had to apologize for stealing. Yeezy launched an anger-driven twitter rant aimed straight at Khalifa, finishing it off with “You wouldn’t have a child if it wasn’t for me,” dragging Amber Rose to the cockfight. Apparently they resolved all their issues over a phone call. Where’s the recording of that one, Kim?

Calvin Harris Vs. Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift was also burning more than one bridge this year, when her sugar-coated romance with Scottish megaproducer/Calvin Klein model Calvin Harris turned bitter. As soon as the pair announced their split, Swift went on a romantic stroll on the beach with Marvel’s most charismatic villain Loki aka Tom Hiddleston. And then revealed that she actually wrote Harris’ Rihanna-assisted single “This Is What You Came For” (what’s up with Rihanna’s songs causing all this drama this year?!).

This enraged Calvin so much that he tweeted a rant: “I know you're off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy [Perry] ETC but I'm not that guy, sorry. I won't allow it.” It was later reported that the two are friends now. Yeah, right, just wait ‘til Swift drops that new album of hers and launches it with “Bad Blood: The Second Massacre.”

Kesha Vs. Dr Luke

Can we still consider it a “feud” when it reaches the legal level? Things are still far from fun over at the Ke-former-dollar-sign-ha’s camp. The ongoing legal battle between Kesha and the man behind her success, megaproducer Dr.Luke (who, according to Kesha, mentally abused her for years and even raped her once) prevents us from hearing any new music from the glitter-loving popstar. Kesha’s request to release her music under Sony Music’s contract was denied back in February, and the singer was photographed exiting the court in tears, propelling a lot of her famous colleagues to tweet their support, while Adele even dedicated her Brit Awards win to the “Tik Tok” singer.

Unfortunately the hashtag #FreeKesha doesn’t hold much weight when it comes to legal issues, so the future of Kesha’s musical career is still uncertain. “I didn’t rape Kesha and I have never had sex with her.  Kesha and I were friends for many years and she was like my little sister,” Dr. Luke tweeted following the hearing, also adding a link to the story that said that Kesha denied under oath back in 2011 that he had raped her. No idea how long this he-said-she-said case will go on, but we’re dying for some new Kesha music even if it’s going to be more country-influenced and mature as the singer herself threatens.

Azealia Banks Vs. Zayn Malik

Another year, another opportunity for Azealia Banks to speak her mind looking like a crazy person. Back in May, the “212” hitmaker viciously attacked Zayn Malik on Twitter for allegedly copping her style in his “Like I Would” music video (what an appropriate title by the way!), calling the ex-1D member a “faggot,”  “sand nigga,”  “d**k rider,”  “punjab” and “paki” and also tweeting “Your mother is a dirty refugee who won’t be granted asylum.”

She also told 14-year-old Disney actress Skai Jackson, who tried to cyber-interfere, that she needs “to grow some hips and start ur menses. stay in a child’s place.” Jackson brushed it off, tweeting back “When a no hip having 14 year old has more class than you. Worry about your career. Get one.” Banks also needs a new IP address, since her homophobic rants reached the tipping point with Twitter and her account was suspended for good.
