20 Places You'll Want to Live to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse

Zombies are all the rage in pop culture right now, and unlike, say, vampires or werewolves, the idea of people-turned-monsters looks much more realistic and frightening. In honor of The Walking Dead returning this Sunday (February 12), we’re looking for a potential safe haven for us once all hell breaks loose. We’re also generous enough to share our ideas. Just leave the key under the doormat next to the rifle, deal?

Island (Un)Living

What’s the best thing to do during a zombie apocalypse? Probably not looking for a getaway with the most scenic view, yet this house-on-the-rock is a perfect option. Surviving zombie’s invasion while sipping some whiskey on the rocks and enjoying the sunset view? Count us in.

Ramped Up

There are many levels to successful zombie fighting. Okay, at least two. This two-stories tall building also comes with a nice ramp in case you want to slide down on your Rover to squash some zombies for fun.

In the Safe

What do you do when you want to hide something? That’s right, you lock it up in the safe. So why not do the very same thing with your body and put it in a safe-like super house that has zero access points? Just don’t forget to explain to the pizza guy where the doorbell is and how he can reach you and, you know, not die in the process. You don’t want any blood on your pizza, we assume.

Farm House

Some snobs claim that growing up at the farm is not glamorous enough, but you can put them to shame once the zombie apocalypse starts and the same people come running straight to your farm-with-some-attitude skyscraper where you can grow food and wait ‘til the things start to cool down.

Dead Water

Spending the rest of your life zombie-free on a luxurious boat? Not that bad of a fate. Until you start looking down and seeing all the dead bodies floating around your new home.

Going Deeper Underground

In case the air is poisoned, you might want to consider re-building your basement and turning it into a top secret underground home base that will leave you zero reasons to climb up.

Rabbit Hole

Another underground safe house option for the people who don’t have any problem with avoiding Vitamin D for the rest of their lives. As you can see on the picture, the only struggle will be getting your beloved private plane underground. Think you will be okay without it?

Round The Clock

This house is totally ah-organic. It does look some 80s sci-fi robot in disguise, but we’re loving its practicality and security.

Tall Business

Something that looks straight out of Star Wars movies, these metal huts are part bunker, part chicken with its long legs that will keep all the chaos on a safe distance.

Wired Up

This does look like a garage with some bard wire, but let’s be real for a second: when you’re facing total extinction, the last thing you will be thinking of is cute design. Plus you can make it look cute on the inside.

Lake Lively

Embrace your inner Jesus and walk on the water. Or at least ask the builders to do it, so that you can have a safe house right on top of the lake. Just make sure no zombie’s blood end up polluting the water.

Desert Rose

Create your own slice of American simple living in the middle of desert where no zombie can survive the heat. Make sure to put the AC on the maximum though.

Bjork’s House

Can you even see the house on this picture? Nope? That’s our point! The secret getaway belongs to Icelandic singer Bjork who definitely looks like she survived a zombie apocalypse or three.

Summit Shock Incarceration Facility

We totally understand that you probably didn’t want to spend the rest of your life in prison, but if it’s the safest location in there during a zombie invasion, then why the hell not?

This Mine Is Mine

This building is a Japanese coal mine aka a perfect zombie hideout. It’s been there since early 60s, so you know it will last. Also think about the views.

Lake-tastic

One more middle-of-the-lake option for all you water fans out there. Last time we checked, zombies can’t swim so you’ll be safe in that house. Unless you can’t swim, too, and will run out of groceries. So think ahead.

Hole In the Road

You know what’s cool about this bathroom? It’s located in the underground missile base in Abilene, Texas, and is guaranteed to keep you both clean and safe during any dangerous time: from zombie apocalypse to distant relatives’ arrival.

Celine Dion’s House

That’s probably where Canadian diva practices these long notes: right in the lazy river. Tell her you’ve to been to her every Vegas show and she’ll definitely let you stay inside her private water park during zombie invasion.

Rock the Boat

Why stick to just one place when you can set out on any kind of adventure from the comfort of your very own boathouse? Just make sure that whichever shore you pick doesn’t have a pack of raging blood-thirsty undead.

Game of Zombies

When it comes to surviving zombie apocalypse, nothing beats an old fashioned option – a castle. Not only you will be able to accommodate a whole lot of your friends and family in there, but you will also throw the most epic Game of Thrones marathon in history while the rest of the world we’ll be literally dying to come to your party.
