Hope you're all stuffed with chocolate and ham after Easter! For those of you camping out in the desert with limited cellphone reception or sitting at home wondering what went down during Weekend One of Coachella and elsewhere, here's what you missed over the weekend.
Saturday's Coachella Special Guests Don't Disappoint
Everyone knows that the real stars of Coachella are the artists who appear despite not being listed on the official lineup. Such was the case this weekend, as everyone from Migos to Drake to the legendary Lauryn Hill stole the spotlight on Saturday night.
Watching Drake and Future team up in the desert is certainly something that attendees won't soon forget, while DJ Snake proved he could bring the party new and old by delivering the other two previously mentioned guests. Cap that off with Lady Gaga busting out her brand new single, "The Cure," and the middle day of Coachella made the weekend already worth the egregious ticket price (particularly after Radiohead had to leave the stage twice on Friday night due to technical difficulties).

Star Wars Battlefront is Back
Before many Star Wars fans could finish swooning over the new teaser trailer for The Last Jedi, another trailer premiered doubling the excitement for many fans. Although 2015's reboot of the Star Wars Battlefront video game series left a lot of fans feeling unsatisfied, the first look at November's Star Wars Battlefront II seems to have calmed many gamers' biggest complaints about the most recent installment.
Not only will this game feature a brand new (but still canon) storyline in which you get to play as an Imperial soldier seeking vengeance against the Rebel scum who destroyed the second Death Star, but it'll also feature heroes and villains from every saga of the Star Wars franchise. From Darth Maul and Yoda to Kylo Ren and Rey, Battlefront II looks like it'll have everyone (and hopefully everything) fans want and expect from the series' primary video games.
A Furious Box Office Opening
Regardless of how ridiculous the Fast and the Furious movies have gotten recently, a whole lot of people still want to see Dominic Toretto and his crew race their way into and out of trouble. The Fate of the Furious proved that enough explosions and high-octane action can still power a monstrous opening weekend at the box office, as the eighth installment broke the global box office record (set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens) with over $530 million around the world.
With roughly $100 million in domestic box office receipts, The Fate of the Furious didn't get anywhere near the nationwide records, but Chinese moviegoers continued their trend of carrying massive American action flicks to the top of the world rankings (much like they did for Furious 7 and Transformers 3).
That's Doctor Kris Marshall Now
For all of the Doctor Who fans hoping to see their favorite series go a different direction with the 13th (or 14th, depending on how you look at it) Doctor, better luck next time. According to rumors and reports, veteran actor Kris Marshall is going to be next in line to star in the hit TV show, which means it'll be yet another white male Doctor. While Marshall's acting chops can't be denied, some fans don't believe he'll be a good fit (as is always the case when a new Doctor is selected). Either way, it sounds like we'll find out if the rumor is true sooner rather than later.
Kris Marshall as Doctor Who feels like one of those news stories that was actually a trap to identify a leak in the Doctor Who offices.

I want that 'Kris Marshall as the new Doctor" story to be false more than any other news story and I'm saying that in 2017.

My wife is still in a blissful state of being where Kris Marshall isn't Doctor Who. I just can't bring myself to break the news to her.

Harry Styles Is Going in Another Direction
On Saturday night (April 15), former One Direction singer Harry Styles took the stage as the official performer for this week's edition of Saturday Night Live. The curly haired cutie put on his best plaid and strayed far from the beaten pop music path he was once accustomed to, showcasing his new soulful, rock sound. Eager fans camped outside of SNL studios were believed Styles would elect to play "Kiwi" off of the album after being served fresh kiwi, pizza, coffee and apples by Harry's personal assistants, but the young heartthrob serenaded viewers with his two new tracks, "Sign Of The Times" and "Ever Since New York," off of his upcoming self-titled album, due out May 12. Check out the return of Harry Styles on Saturday Night Live below.
NBA Playoffs Tip Off with Drama
From the very first games, the NBA playoffs have already shown that they're going to be must-see TV this year. Whether it's the Clippers keeping their tradition of choking in the playoffs (this time on a dramatic buzzer beater) or the Celtics' Isaiah Thomas putting up 33 points immediately after the loss of his sister, there was no shortage of storylines going on in this weekend's basketball games. Considering we're only just beginning each series, this could be a sign of a lot of great things to come.
