George Harrison said you gotta pay the dues if you wanna play the blues. Milwaukee, WI is a dues-collecting town for a working musician like Misha Siegfried. The 35-year-old bluesman-turned-jazzman has been steadily gigging in the Brew City since his undergrad years, hosting beer-soaked jam nights at blues haunts and honing chops with weekly gigs at a quaint downtown jazz club. His latest material explores Birth of Cool-era Miles territory, taking a John Scofield approach to the six-string that delights fans of jazz-jam exploration.
We checked in on Siegfried who gave us the lowdown about his upcoming foray into music and multimedia. Hop to the next page to read the full interview.

Describe your music to people who haven't heard it before.
The intersection of Jazz, Jam, and The Infinite.
Did you always know you were going to be a jazz musician?
I started out as a cellist in school, loved music but hated playing the cello. At 14, I petitioned for a guitar from my parents. My dad played Cream's "Wheels Of Fire" and I knew I wanted to be a guitar player. That sound, especially on the live disc, blew my mind and changed my outlook on life.
What's your philosophy behind writing songs?
Easy and cool arrangements that provide the best vehicle for jamming with the band.
Do you have history on Myspace as a musician?
I was in an indie-rock band that toured from 2005-2008 and MySpace was the backbone of our fan base. It was the first time that musicians could actively engage with fans online. At the time it was a revolutionary concept and shaped my view of the role of online content and branding in relation to music.
Who are your musical heroes?
Miles Davis, Eric Clapton, Freddie King, John Scofield, Moses Oakland, George Gershwin, Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem
If you were a hashtag, what would you be?
#heblues
What’s your big 2017 goal?
To launch my current project in the fall. It's an electronica album that is also an immersive multimedia art installation piece. Merging electronica music, video mapping and projection, and graphic design. What if music was a place?
Does your place in the world — living in Milwaukee — influence your music?
There’s a long-standing drive to fight against Midwestern Nice.
